UAE motorists have a golden chance to reduce up to four negative or black points against their driving file with an initiative from the Ministry of Interior, who have clubbed it with the occasion of most of the country’s students returning back to school.
According to the education calendar, most of the students will be heading to school for a new session on August 28. After two months of summer break, traffic is expected to be a lot on the roads as usual.
While anxious students and parents try to get their routines right, the UAE’s Ministry of Interior has announced that they will be observing an accident-free day to ensure safety rules are observed on the road. The incentive for adhering motorists will be that they can knock off four negative points from the record.
The move was conceptualised last week, but details were given out through their social platforms and on the MoI website. Negative points are penal measures that are imposed on motorists for serious traffic violations. And once the driver accumulates 24 negative points, their license is suspended.
How to make use of the deduction
Motorists will first have to take a pledge on the link provided on the MoI social accounts to drive safely on the first day of school. After this, they shouldn’t commit any traffic violations or cause any accidents throughout the day.
UAE’s Ministry of Interior has collaborated with local police authorities for a nationwide campaign called a Day Without Accidents to boost road safety.

Brigadier General Engineer Hussain Ahmed Al-Harthy, Federal Traffic Council chairperson at the Ministry of Interior, said the “Accident-Free Day” forms an integral component of the ministry and police’s awareness plans. This initiative is spearheaded by traffic departments and directorates, operating under the oversight of the General Directorate of Traffic Coordination at MoI.
“Our goal is to engage the local community, encompassing all its institutions and individuals, in collaboratively observing this National Traffic Day. The objective is to strengthen adherence to safety principles and preventive measures. This comprehensive awareness campaign will encompass universities, institutions, agencies, and even private sector companies.
“It presents an opportunity to conduct safety inspections of vehicles and tires, particularly focusing on school buses. Additionally, it serves as a reminder for everyone to prioritize adhering to traffic regulations and practices, thereby upholding community safety and security.”
