The growth was registered in orders across its portfolio, which includes food, groceries and other non-food verticals. It’s customer base went up by over 30 per cent, with over two million new app downloads registered in 2021.

talabat today provides over 17,000 restaurant partners on its platform with a tech solution to enhance their online reach, in addition to data and tools to scale their business while giving them access to the company’s wide logistics network and industry expertise.

In 2021, there was a growth of over 100 per cent in talabat’s non-food orders. talabat Mart (tMart), talabat’s own q-commerce and dark store concept grew more than 70 per cent in orders, and spread its presence across all seven emirates. Tatiana Rahal, managing director, talabat UAE, said: “We are delighted to report strong year on year performance as we grow and expand our business. As a tech company, data plays a crucial role in our growth, steering our efforts to improve our services and fill market gaps to provide value, convenience and ease for our stakeholders across our operations, and on every level. Supporting SMEs has also been a big focus for us, and we have done this through strategic partnerships with the departments of economic development in Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain. This is an area we are continuously looking to enhance as part of our efforts to empower business owners in the Emirates.”

“2021 was an important year for the company, and with growth comes an increased sense of responsibility to give back to the communities we operate in, as well as our growing fleet of riders who continue to be at the heart of everything we do. Flying-car trials planned in Ras Al Khaimah under new UAE-China agreement

Flying cars could soon be tested in the deserts of Ras Al Khaimah, under a new agreement between the emirate and Chinese aircraft manufacturer Aridge.

The partnership also includes plans for a demonstration flight route connecting Ras Al Khaimah with Abu Dhabi, as authorities explore the potential of low-altitude air transport between the UAE’s emirates.

Signed on Friday under the oversight of the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority, the agreement will establish a regulatory sandbox in Ras Al Khaimah. Such sandboxes allow new technologies to be tested in controlled conditions while regulators develop safety requirements and operating procedures.

The trials will be conducted through the Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA), with Aridge expected to assess its aircraft in desert environments and across a range of operational scenarios.

The programme will also examine how flying-car services could be integrated into existing transport systems, including flight planning, airspace coordination, ground operations, passenger handling and emergency procedures.

A possible Abu Dhabi–Ras Al Khaimah route

The proposed demonstration route between Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah is intended to explore what would be required for future inter-emirate air mobility services.

The two emirates are currently around a 90-minute drive apart. However, the planned flight would initially be a demonstration rather than a commercial passenger service. Any future operation would depend on the outcome of testing, regulatory approval and the development of supporting infrastructure.

Aridge’s involvement follows a demonstration of its modular flying car, known as the Land Aircraft Carrier, at a reception held at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. The event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy and attended by Chinese Ambassador Zeng Jixin, along with UAE government officials and business representatives.

The company has described the agreement as a significant step in its regional expansion. It is also being presented as the first entry by a Chinese flying-car company into a national-level regulatory sandbox in the Middle East.

Ras Al Khaimah’s Ruler, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, said the partnership reflected the emirate’s efforts to use technology to support economic development and improve quality of life.

For now, the project remains focused on testing. But if the trials progress, the initiative could offer an early look at how flying cars might become part of the UAE’s future transport network.

A Dubai-based student robotics team has put the UAE on the global STEM map after securing a major award at one of the world’s leading robotics competitions and earning an invitation to an elite international event in the US.

Team UFORCE, representing Unique World Robotics (UWR), finished third in the prestigious Inspire Award category at the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Michiana Premier Event, held in Indiana from June 18 to 21.

The Inspire Award is FTC’s highest judged honour, recognising excellence in robot design, engineering, programming, innovation, teamwork and community impact. Team UFORCE competed against 96 top robotics teams from around the world.

Invited to exclusive global event

Following its strong performance, Team UFORCE also competed at the Multinational Tech Invitational (MTI) in Maryland, an invitation-only competition featuring just 44 of the world’s best FTC teams selected from more than 11,000 active teams globally.

Showcasing UAE STEM talent

The 16-member team includes students from schools across Dubai and Sharjah, highlighting the UAE’s growing talent in robotics and engineering.

“This achievement reflects the dedication, innovation and perseverance of our students and mentors,” said Bansan Thomas George, founder of Unique World Robotics.

Head coach Mohammed Mukhtar said competing on global platforms demonstrates the ability of young innovators from the UAE to excel internationally.

Team captain Aarnav Bhargava described the competitions as a valuable opportunity to develop technical skills, teamwork and confidence while competing against some of the world’s best robotics teams.

About FIRST Tech Challenge

FIRST Tech Challenge is one of the world’s largest youth robotics programmes and is supported by organisations including Google, Amazon and NASA.

The programme also offers students access to scholarships, mentorship opportunities and pathways to leading universities and STEM institutions.

The achievement also reflects the growing impact of firstrobotics.ae, a UAE volunteer-led robotics community that supports students interested in robotics, artificial intelligence and STEM education.

Passengers travelling through Dubai International Airport (DXB) can now check if they’re eligible to use Smart Gates before reaching passport control.

Dubai Airports has introduced the new Smart Gates Pre-Eligibility Verification service in partnership with the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) to make immigration faster and reduce waiting times.

How it works

Travellers can instantly verify their Smart Gate eligibility through the Pocket Flights platform or by scanning QR codes placed across airport terminals and boarding gates.

The service lets passengers know in advance whether they can use the automated passport gates, helping them avoid uncertainty at immigration.

Faster airport experience

Dubai Airports says the new feature is part of its ongoing efforts to streamline passenger journeys and improve the overall airport experience.

By allowing travellers to confirm eligibility before reaching passport control, the airport aims to speed up immigration processing and make travel through DXB more seamless for millions of passengers each year.
