The Digital School, one of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), in collaboration with the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), has launched the second edition of its impactful ‘Donate Your Own Device’ campaign.
Building on the success of its first phase, the ‘Donate Your Own Device 2.0’ campaign aims to collect 100,000 used electronic devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones, which will be refurbished, recycled, and distributed to underprivileged students enrolled in the Digital School’s global programmes.
This initiative aligns with a comprehensive vision that blends education, humanitarian work, and environmental sustainability. Devices collected from individuals and institutions will be renewed or responsibly recycled in accordance with the best environmental practices, helping bridge the digital divide while reducing electronic waste.
A Permanent Commitment to Digital Learning and Sustainability
The Digital School has announced that the campaign will become a permanent initiative, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to accessible education and sustainability.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, and Chairman of the Digital School Board, noted that by turning used electronics into tools for learning, the initiative directly contributes to reducing the global education gap and promoting responsible community engagement.
“This is more than a donation drive, it’s a long-term vision for inclusive education and environmental stewardship,” he said.
A Global Humanitarian Impact
Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Board of Directors, emphasised that the Digital School has brought about a transformative shift in education delivery to refugee children, displaced populations, and other vulnerable groups.
“What distinguishes the Digital School is its futuristic approach, offering smart, flexible education that delivers real learning outcomes, even in regions facing significant challenges,” he added.
