Unstable weather hits UAE with rain, dusty winds, and cloudy skies

The UAE is currently experiencing unstable weather, with light rain reported in Sharjah around 12:50pm on Tuesday, following early morning showers in Khorfakkan. The East Coast is now blanketed with thick clouds, signalling the likelihood of further weather activity across the country.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the ongoing conditions are being driven by a surface low-pressure system extending from the East, combined with a weaker low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. This combination is resulting in partly cloudy to hazy skies, with an increased chance of convective cloud formation—especially over eastern and some internal areas.

These clouds carry a high probability of rainfall, and more showers are expected later today and tomorrow, the NCM said.

Temperatures are also on the rise, accompanied by a slight increase in humidity. Residents, especially those in coastal and inland regions, may feel muggy conditions develop throughout the day.

Dusty winds and reduced visibility

The NCM has also warned of dusty winds that may affect various parts of the country. Wind speeds are forecast to range between 10–25 km/h, occasionally reaching up to 40 km/h in exposed areas, which may kick up dust and reduce visibility on roads.

Motorists and outdoor goers are urged to take caution, particularly in open or desert areas where blowing dust could hinder visibility and pose health risks for those with respiratory conditions.

There is also a chance of mist formation, especially during early morning or late-night hours.

Winds will be light to moderate overall, shifting between southeasterly and northeasterly directions, with occasional strengthening during the daytime.

Expect partly cloudy to generally fair weather heading into the weekend. Some clouds may drift over the eastern mountains during the afternoon. Winds remain light to moderate, and the pattern of rising humidity at night continues, meaning fog or mist could return early in the morning, especially in low-lying areas. Sea conditions remain slight.

What the next few days will look like

Cloudy with possible showers:
Expect partly cloudy to fully cloudy skies at times, especially over coastal, northern and eastern areas. As cloud cover builds, scattered rainfall is likely.

Dusty in some spots:
Light to moderate winds will swing between the southeast and northeast, occasionally picking up enough strength to kick up blowing dust.

Calmer seas:
