Unstable weather hits UAE with rain, dusty winds, and cloudy skies

The UAE is currently experiencing unstable weather, with light rain reported in Sharjah around 12:50pm on Tuesday, following early morning showers in Khorfakkan. The East Coast is now blanketed with thick clouds, signalling the likelihood of further weather activity across the country.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the ongoing conditions are being driven by a surface low-pressure system extending from the East, combined with a weaker low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. This combination is resulting in partly cloudy to hazy skies, with an increased chance of convective cloud formation—especially over eastern and some internal areas.

These clouds carry a high probability of rainfall, and more showers are expected later today and tomorrow, the NCM said.

Temperatures are also on the rise, accompanied by a slight increase in humidity. Residents, especially those in coastal and inland regions, may feel muggy conditions develop throughout the day.

Dusty winds and reduced visibility

The NCM has also warned of dusty winds that may affect various parts of the country. Wind speeds are forecast to range between 10–25 km/h, occasionally reaching up to 40 km/h in exposed areas, which may kick up dust and reduce visibility on roads.

Motorists and outdoor goers are urged to take caution, particularly in open or desert areas where blowing dust could hinder visibility and pose health risks for those with respiratory conditions.

There is also a chance of mist formation, especially during early morning or late-night hours.

Winds will be light to moderate overall, shifting between southeasterly and northeasterly directions, with occasional strengthening during the daytime.

Authorities have issued weather advisories across the UAE as unstable conditions are expected from March 23 to March 27, bringing intermittent rainfall, strong winds, and reduced visibility.

According to the NCM, today’s weather will bring rainfall in the afternoon over northeastern areas, Al Ain, and southern regions. Rain is also expected later at night across western and southern areas, extending into inland parts of the country.

On Monday, scattered showers are likely during the day across the UAE, followed by increased precipitation at night over northern and eastern regions, including Al Ain.

Tuesday’s forecast indicates rainfall over northern, eastern, and southern regions during daytime hours. By night, rain chances are expected to expand to western areas, coastal regions, and islands.

Wednesday will see intermittent scattered rainfall throughout the day across the country. Eastern regions and Al Ain may continue to receive rainfall into the night, although chances are expected to gradually decrease later.

Thursday morning is expected to have a lower probability of rainfall. However, conditions are set to change by the afternoon, with increasing chances over northern and eastern regions and Al Ain, extending overnight to coastal areas, islands, and western regions.

By Friday, rainfall is forecast across scattered areas nationwide during the daytime. Showers are expected to begin over islands and coastal regions before moving inland across most parts of the UAE.

Authorities continue to advise residents to stay updated through official channels and take necessary precautions amid changing weather conditions.
