Where does UAE rank in 5G network among seven GCC nations?

Published

on

The UAE has the fastest average 5G download speed among countries in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) region, according to UK-based mobile analytics company Opensignal.

OpenSignal has studied the GCC smartphone users’ 5G experience when using the 5th generation (5G) mobile network for mobile video streaming, multiplayer mobile gaming and voice app communications. It looked at 5G availability and speed, as well as the uplift in experience compared with older 4G services.

The UAE leads the table in terms of 5G download speed, with users having experienced average speeds of 316.8 Mbps, ahead of Qatar and Kuwait. The three countries lead the region for 5G peak download speed as well, with a score of 743 Mbps in UAE, 713.4 Mbps in Qatar and 663.7 Mbps in Kuwait.

The UAE also took first place for 5G games experience with a score of 74 on a 100-point scale.

“5G is continuing to advance across the GCC. In all six markets, users experience much improved speeds and video experience using 5G, OpenSignal said in its report.

“While smaller markets top the rankings for 5G download speed, the position of Saudi Arabia is notable: its users saw a strong uplift in both speed and video experience, as well as good 5G availability despite its size.”

Trump Tower worth $1 billion set to rise in Dubai with $20 million penthouses

Published

on

The Trump Organisation is launching a new tower in Dubai, which will include luxury penthouses priced at $20 million. This comes as the company also prepares to start a new property project in Qatar, just ahead of a visit by US President Donald Trump to the Gulf region.

The Trump Organisation has partnered with Dar Global Plc, a Saudi Arabian developer listed in London, to build an 80-story tower on a major highway in Dubai. The tower will have stunning views of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. The project will include a hotel, branded homes, a members-only club, and penthouses with sky pools. It will take a few years to complete.

The new tower will have 126 hotel rooms and 446 apartments. The price for apartments will start from Dh4 million to Dh5 million ($1.1 million – $1.4 million), while the penthouses will cost around Dh74 million. The total value of the project is $1 billion, and demand has been strong, according to the companies involved.

One unique feature of this project is that buyers will be able to make payments using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, which the Trump family has invested in.

At the same time, Dar Global’s CEO, Ziad El Chaar, mentioned that the company is also planning a new property project in Qatar with the Trump Organisation.

These announcements come ahead of Trump’s trip to the Gulf, where he will visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, including Dubai.

The Dubai tower project is an important step for the Trump Organisation, as it follows the cancellation of a previous project in Dubai during the financial crisis in 2008. The Trump family has since worked on other developments, including a golf course next to a Trump-branded housing project.

Two expats, an Indian and a Pakistani, have become overnight millionaires in the latest Dubai Duty Free (DDF) Millennium Millionaire draw, with each winning a life-changing prize of $1 million (approx. Dh3.67 million).

Indian Winner Finds Out Mid-Vacation

Biju Therool, a 49-year-old Indian expat who lives in Dubai and works for a retail chain, won in Series 499 of the draw. He bought his lucky ticket (0437) on April 19 at Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport, just before flying home to Kerala for a vacation.

He is now the 248th Indian national to win $1 million since the DDF promotion started in 1999 — with Indians continuing to be the top participants in the long-running draw.

In Series 498, the prize went to Muhammad Gumman, a Pakistani national based in Saudi Arabia, who bought his winning ticket (2990) online on April 12.

However, DDF officials say they have not yet been able to contact Gumman to inform him of the good news. He is the 26th Pakistani to win the DDF jackpot.

The draw was held on Wednesday at Concourse D of Dubai International Airport.

The UAE Fuel Price Committee has announced the fuel prices for May 2025. While petrol prices saw a slight increase, diesel prices have dropped.

Diesel will cost Dh2.52 per litre, a decrease from Dh2.63 last month.

Super 98 petrol will cost Dh2.58 per litre, up from Dh2.57 in April.

Special 95 petrol will cost Dh2.47 per litre, slightly higher than the previous price of Dh2.46.

E-Plus 91 petrol will be priced at Dh2.39 per litre, a slight rise from Dh2.38 in April.

The monthly fuel price updates in the UAE are linked to global oil market movements. This latest decrease aligns with a recent drop in international crude oil prices and is aimed at keeping domestic fuel costs stable.

The updated prices include the 5% VAT and are applicable at all fuel stations across the UAE. The next fuel price update is expected at the end of May.
