Dubai is cracking down on public cleanliness violations, and offenders could be slapped with fines of up to Dh1,500. From spitting in public to littering, dumping waste in the sea, or even barbecuing in unauthorised spots, the emirate has a long list of infractions that can now be reported instantly through a new Dubai Municipality app, Eltizam.
The app allows authorised users to snap photos of offences, add notes, and instantly alert authorities. It’s part of a wider push to promote shared responsibility for keeping the city pristine.
Violations that can be reported include:
- Spitting in public
- Improper disposal of chewing gum
- Littering in public areas
- Dumping waste in the sea, on beaches, in creeks or ports
- Draining vehicle wash water in non-designated areas
- Lighting fires or barbecuing in prohibited spots
- Posting unauthorised flyers or ads that deface public spaces
- Not cleaning up after pets
Those caught breaking the rules face fines of up to Dh1,500.
Beyond the app
Dubai Municipality runs a year-round cleanliness system supported by 855 vehicles and over 3,200 team members. They cover everything from 2,400km of main roads to 33km of water canals, industrial areas, markets, and waste facilities. The department also handles hazardous waste treatment, pest control, abandoned vehicle removal, and large item disposal for residents.
