A porter was caught stealing mobile phones from a passenger’s baggage at Dubai airport. He has been arrested and jailed for three months. The porter has also been fined Dh28,000.
The expat, an Asian, will be deported after he has served his jail term.
During the court hearing, the porter admitted that he had stolen six mobile phones from the passenger’s bag and then sold them at half the price. The porter bought sunglasses with the money.
The case unfolded in March last year after an Asian passenger reported theft of his mobile phones. He said he found his mobile phones missing from his bag after he arrived in his native country.
A team of CID officers swung into action and with the help of surveillance cameras identified the porter.
On searching his house, the cops found the stolen mobile phones, sunglasses as well as many other items.
On being grilled, the porter revealed that he sold five of the stolen mobile phones to a used mobile phone store for Dh10,000. He bought sunglasses, a camera, a mobile phone, a wireless headset and other accessories with that money.
