Dubai ad agency turns billboard into a self-funded tribute of gratitude and love for the UAE

Published

As global markets navigate a landscape of uncertainty, the UAE continues to stand as a beacon of stability and resilience. While business leaders across the region have applauded the nation’s defence mechanisms and leadership, one Dubai-based advertising firm is moving beyond words and into action.

NextWhat Advertising has unveiled a massive, self-funded tribute billboard at the Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout. In a move that breaks industry norms, the agency has bypassed commercial revenue to dedicate one of the city’s most premium outdoor spots to a message of solidarity and love for the UAE leadership.

The billboard, strategically located in the parking area facing the flow of traffic from Emirates Towers toward Zabeel Road and facing the iconic Sheikh Zayed Road, carries a heartfelt message honouring the strength, wisdom, and commitment to unity that defines the UAE’s path forward.

Gratitude for leadership

While Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaigns are common, they are almost exclusively funded by clients. NextWhat is pioneering a different path: the billboard owner acting as the benefactor.

“Typically, we see clients using CSR funds for these types of messages. Among outdoor media players, we are amongst the first few to have done this entirely on our own,” says Tanvir Shah, Founder and Managing Director of NextWhat Advertising.

“We’ve spent our own money and used our own premium space, no sponsorship, no clients, to show our genuine gratitude for the safety and leadership the UAE provides.”

From Mumbai to the world stage

The man behind the move, Tanvir Shah, is a first-generation entrepreneur with a legacy of Thinking Big. A graduate of Mumbai’s prestigious Sydenham College and a veteran of The Times of India, Shah launched his first venture in 1992. Today, his footprint spans India, Sri Lanka, and the UAE.

Under Shah’s leadership, NextWhat has become synonymous with unmissable brand experiences. By dedicating their state-of-the-art digital and large-format sites to a national cause, the company is demonstrating that in the UAE, the bond between the private sector and the state is built on more than just commerce; it is built on shared resilience.

United we stand as a family

Today, as business leaders and residents alike confront uncertainty, they do so not as guests in a foreign land, but as a united family standing in defence of the home that has embraced them. This bond has been forged through years of shared milestones and a collective belief that, regardless of origin, hearts can beat as one for the Emirates.

“The UAE has given us extraordinary opportunities and unwavering support. Just as it welcomed us during times of prosperity, we stand with it now in moments of challenge. We are not merely expatriates or guests; we are family. Irrespective of nationality, we have consciously chosen this country as our home, and we hold it close to our hearts. Our loyalty has only grown stronger through the trust and confidence shown by the nation’s leadership. This land has embraced us with dignity, and the least we can do is stand by it. At the end of the day, we are one,” concluded Shah.

Your one-step guide to Emirates ID and residency visa renewal in 2026

Published

on

Spread the love

For years, the visa run or the medical-to-ID process was a familiar rite of passage for newcomers to the UAE, often involving multiple steps and repeated paperwork. New employees as well as residents were required to complete a mandatory medical test before applying for or renewing their residency visa, followed by a separate application for an Emirates ID.

As of April this year, that era has officially come to an end. Under the latest reforms introduced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, the UAE has streamlined these procedures by fully integrating residency and identity services into a single, seamless digital process, marking a significant shift toward efficiency and ease for residents.

Here is everything you need to know to finish your renewal in minutes, not days.

1. What is the one-step process

The one-step renewal is a unified application. When you initiate your residency renewal (whether through your employer or as a self-sponsored resident), the system automatically triggers your Emirates ID renewal in the same application.

  • No more separate forms: One fee, one application, one approval.
  • Unified Data: The system pulls your updated medical results and insurance status directly from the health authorities.

2. The digital checklist

Before you log in, ensure you have clear digital copies of:

  • Original Passport: Must be valid for at least six months.
  • Current Emirates ID: You will need the ID number for the login.
  • Personal Photo: A high-quality digital photo with a white background (no glasses/accessories).
  • UAE Pass: This is now the mandatory key to access all ICP services. Ensure your UAE Pass is upgraded to verified status.

3. How to renew in 4 minutes

  1. Log In: Open the UAEICP Smart App or visit the ICP portal. Log in using your UAE Pass.
  2. Select Renew Residency & ID: The system will show your current profile. Click on the renewal button for yourself or your dependents.
  3. Review Retrieved Data: The magic of 2026 is that your medical fitness results and health insurance data are now automatically linked. If they don’t appear, simply click Refresh Data.
  4. One-Time Payment: You will see a single total fee. This includes the residency sticker (e-version), the Emirates ID issuance, and courier fees.
  5. Biometrics (The exception): If you have renewed before and your fingerprints are on file, you are done. If you are a new resident or your data needs an update, the app will generate a Biometric Appointment slot for you automatically.

4. Fees and timelines

  • Cost: Fees can vary based on visa duration (1, 2, or 10 years). Visa charges are stated on each service card on the websites of ICP and GDRFA-D.
  • Printing: Once approved, your digital Emirates ID is available immediately on the UAEICP app and the UAE Wallet.
  • Delivery: Your physical card will be delivered to your doorstep via an authorised courier within 3 to 5 working days.
  • Visa regulations and costs are subject to change and should always be double-checked with your travel agent or local Embassy of the UAE before travelling.

5. Avoid late fines

The grace period has been standardised in 2026. You generally have 30 days to renew after expiry. After this, a per-day fine is applied for both residency and ID delays.

Dubai’s new grievance committee for government employees: What it means

Published

on

Spread the love

Dubai has introduced a new system that allows government employees to formally challenge certain workplace decisions, following a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The new framework, established under Decree No. (5) of 2026, creates a Central Grievances Committee that will review complaints from Dubai government staff regarding administrative decisions affecting their jobs.

What is the new committee?

The Central Grievances Committee is a body created to review appeals from government employees who believe an administrative decision affecting them was unfair or improperly handled.

A separate Grievance Adjudication Committee will examine the appeals and issue final decisions.

Who will be on the committee?

The committee will include:

  • A chairman and deputy chairman
  • Members with legal and human resources expertise
  • Representatives from:
    • The General Secretariat of the Executive Council
    • The Supreme Legislative Committee
    • The Dubai Government Human Resources Department

Members will be appointed by the chairman of Dubai’s Executive Council.

What decisions can employees challenge?

Employees may submit grievances against final administrative decisions affecting:

  • Their employment or legal status
  • Job roles
  • Working conditions

On what grounds can a complaint be filed?

Appeals can be made if an employee believes a decision involved:

  • Misapplication of the law
  • Failure to follow required procedures
  • Abuse of authority
  • Excessive disciplinary action
  • Lack of proper justification

How long do employees have to file a grievance?

Employees must submit their complaint within 14 working days after receiving written notice of the decision. Late submissions may still be accepted if there is a valid reason.

When can a complaint be rejected?

The committee may reject grievances if:

  • The issue falls outside its jurisdiction
  • The complaint is filed after the deadline
  • The matter has already been decided by the courts
  • The employee has no legal interest in the case

Are the committee’s decisions final?

Decisions issued by the Grievance Adjudication Committee will be final and binding on government entities. However, employees still retain the right to challenge decisions through the courts.

What else does the decree change?

The new decree replaces Executive Council Resolution No. (41) of 2015, which previously governed the grievances process for Dubai government employees.

The law will take effect once it is published in the Official Gazette.
