Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work has kicked off its June Challenge as part of the ongoing 12×12 Challenge series, inviting individuals and groups to “Be an Environment Friend.” This month’s initiative aims to boost environmental awareness and encourage community action to protect the planet, one simple step at a time.
From tree planting and cleaning public spaces to recycling and launching creative eco-friendly projects, the Challenge spotlights how small volunteer efforts can leave a big impact on Sharjah’s natural heritage and the global sustainable development goals.
Dr Jasim Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work, stressed the importance of collective responsibility. “Every tree planted and every piece of recycled waste is a step toward a more sustainable future,” he said. “This challenge is a call not only to participate but to embrace the values of giving and shared care for our environment.”
The 12×12 Challenge series runs monthly, motivating the community to volunteer in diverse fields while supporting Sharjah’s vision to lead as a pioneer city in voluntary work.
Volunteers and community members are encouraged to submit their innovative ideas and initiatives to help preserve natural resources and promote environmental stewardship across the emirate.
Sharjah’s June Challenge is a reminder that protecting the environment is a shared mission — one that can inspire lasting, positive change for generations to come.
