Now, sip drinks chilled with ice cubes from a 100,000-year-old Greenland glacier in Dubai

Dubai’s thirst for luxury just hit freezing point. Residents can now sip on drinks chilled with ice cubes straight from a 100,000-year-old Greenland glacier — and they don’t come cheap. At Dh249 for six cubes, these crystal-clear Arctic blocks have travelled a staggering 20,000km to land in the UAE’s most exclusive venues.

Harvested from a 22-tonne chunk of pristine glacier ice, these cubes are processed at Dubai’s Natural Ice factory and are already making waves in some of the city’s restaurants. And if you fancy a sip of something extra special, Dubai’s swanky Nahaté restaurant is rolling out a series of ultra-luxurious cocktails, priced up to Dh700 — all featuring the Arctic ice as their signature touch.

Baccarat Chef’s Table, a high-end fine-dining hotspot in DIFC, is turning heads with its ultra-luxurious offerings. The venue houses the world’s first-ever Jacob & Co. private lounge in collaboration with the renowned American watch brand.

Tasked with crafting a one-of-a-kind cocktail menu, the restaurant’s beverage and marketing director, Andrey Bolshakov, has introduced a stunning lineup of drinks featuring 100,000-year-old glacier ice cubes. The creations pay homage to both Baccarat and Jacob & Co., with four cocktails inspired by the iconic crystal brand and six dedicated to the watchmaker’s legendary timepieces. Among them, the Astronomia cocktail, named after the brand’s showstopping watch, is served in an opulent blue Baccarat glass worth over Dh1,000.

How the cleanest form of ice is made

According to the company, Arctic Ice, which recently shipped a big chunk of ice to Dubai, says these parts of the ice sheets have not been in contact with any soils or contaminated by pollutants produced by human activities. Nor is this ice made in factories. So, how do they procure it? It is harvested from icebergs that have been already naturally detached from a glacier and are floating in the Nuuk fjord in Greenland.

Every iceberg undergoes meticulous manual selection and examination before being elevated onto its production vessel through the use of a crane and specialised lifting equipment.

This stringent process guarantees the ice’s quality and purity. The company said that their sourcing strictly avoids extracting ice directly from the glacier.

“Our ice can be used for all kinds of beverages, drinks, and food products. Some of our clients use it for beauty and ice baths because it’s the purest H20 on earth,” Samir Ben Tabib, chairman, international relations at Arctic Ice, was quoted as saying in a media report.

“Additionally, its structure makes it last longer in drinks, providing a premium experience in bars and restaurants.”

Originally discovered after a boat crash in Greenland, this rare ice is now making waves in a glass at some of Dubai’s top restaurants.

Dubai makes dreams come true for little girl battling cancer

Published

Nine-year-old Adele Shestovskaya had one big dream – to visit Dubai. When Dubai’s Crown Prince heard about it, he made sure she got the VIP treatment of a lifetime.

The brave Finnish girl, who is battling kidney cancer, had admired Dubai’s stunning skyline and sun-kissed beaches online. But thanks to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, her wish became a reality.

From the moment she landed, Adele was treated like royalty. Dubai officials, led by Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, rolled out the red carpet. She was greeted at the airport by Dubai’s adorable travel mascots, got to stamp her own passport, and was whisked away in a luxury ride to her breathtaking stay at Jumeirah Beach Residence.

But the surprises didn’t stop there. Adele’s adventure-packed itinerary included a wild trip to a nature reserve, where she played with exotic animals, a tour of the Museum of the Future, filled with futuristic wonders and a magical underwater journey through The Lost Chambers Aquarium, surrounded by thousands of marine creatures.

And because Dubai’s hospitality is second to none, Adele’s health was a top priority. Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital ensured she had everything she needed to stay safe and comfortable during her dream trip.

Lieutenant General Al Marri called it an honour to bring joy to Adele and her family, saying, “This is Dubai’s way of showing love and support to children fighting illness.”

As their trip came to an end, Adele’s father, Vitaly, was overwhelmed with gratitude. “We have never experienced such warmth and generosity,” he said. “My children keep saying, ‘We don’t want to leave Dubai.’”

But while they had to return home for Adele’s treatment, one thing is certain—Dubai has left an indelible mark on their hearts.

Now fry and earn: Ajman launches cash-for-used-oil scheme for residents

Published

on

Ajman authorities have rolled out an innovative initiative that turns household waste into an environmental win — offering residents cash in exchange for used cooking oil.

The programme, which aims to reduce pollution and promote biofuel production, provides an easy and rewarding way for households to recycle their oil instead of disposing of it improperly.

The initiative, spearheaded by civic authorities, allows residents to collect their used cooking oil and have it picked up by simply calling 80070.

Participants will receive a designated container to store the oil safely before collection. Once collected, the oil is converted into biofuel — an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels.

Environmental and Economic Benefits

Authorities emphasise that the programme not only prevents clogged pipes and landfill waste but also supports sustainable energy solutions. Biofuel, derived from vegetable oils and other renewable sources, produces fewer carbon emissions compared to traditional fuels.

Apart from its environmental advantages, the initiative provides direct financial benefits to participants. Residents will be compensated for every litre of used oil they recycle, effectively turning kitchen waste into a source of income.

Authorities Urge Residents to Take Part

The campaign is part of a broader effort to enhance sustainability and waste management practices in Ajman. Officials are urging residents to take advantage of the programme by signing up for the collection service.

“By recycling your used cooking oil, you’re not only helping the environment but also contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future,” an Ajman municipal spokesperson stated.

Households interested in participating can call 80070 to receive their storage container and schedule a pickup. Authorities hope the initiative will encourage the widespread adoption of biofuel alternatives and reinforce Ajman’s commitment to sustainability.
