Say goodbye to buffering: 6G tech tested by e& UAE lets you download movies in seconds

Published

on

Imagine downloading movies in seconds, streaming 8K videos without buffering, and using virtual reality or gaming apps with zero lag. Thanks to the powerful 6 ghz band, these things will soon become a reality.

Telecom company e& UAE has just completed a major test using new 6 ghz and 600 mhz spectrum bands, laying the groundwork for the next big leap in mobile technology: 6G. In tests, e& achieved blazing-fast wireless speeds of up to 10 gbps, that’s twice as much faster than your current 5G.

So, what does this mean for regular users?

Speed isn’t everything when it comes to networking. Coverage matters too, especially in areas where signal strength can drop. That’s where the 600 mhz band comes in. It can push 5G signals over 6km, even in hard-to-reach or remote areas. This means more reliable mobile service whether you’re in the city, at home, on the road, or out in the desert.

These advancements are also good news for people who don’t have fibre broadband at home. Using commercial-grade equipment (similar to what’s already on the market), e& is making it possible to deliver fibre-like internet over wireless – fast, stable, and with wide coverage.

For mobile users, this means:

  • Faster downloads and uploads
  • Smoother video streaming, even in ultra-high definition
  • Better gaming and VR experiences with no lag
  • Stronger signal in crowded areas and rural zones
  • More reliable video calls and remote work access

e& UAE says this is more than just a tech milestone; it’s a step toward 5G-Advanced and eventually 6G, which will make our devices smarter and more connected than ever.

These upgrades also support the country’s vision for smart cities and high-tech industries, helping businesses stay agile while ensuring people stay connected.

So, while you might not see 6G on your phone just yet, what e& is doing now will soon transform how you use the wifi on the go.

Tragedy averted: Quick action by Sharjah authorities prevented greater loss in tower fire

Published

on

Sharjah authorities mounted a rapid and highly coordinated emergency response after a massive fire broke out in a 52-storey residential tower on Sunday, April 13. Police, Civil Defence, and National Ambulance units worked in unison to evacuate hundreds of residents, secure the site, and deliver urgent medical assistance, actions that helped prevent even greater loss of life. The blaze, which erupted on an upper floor of the high-rise, resulted in five fatalities and 19 injuries, prompting an ongoing investigation into the cause.

How Emergency Teams Got Into Action

The fire broke out late Sunday morning in a 52-storey residential building that housed more than 1,500 residents of various nationalities. The alarm was raised at 11:31 am, triggering an immediate multi-agency emergency response led by Sharjah Police, Sharjah Civil Defence, and the National Ambulance.

Swift Response Averts Greater Tragedy

Emergency personnel moved swiftly to evacuate hundreds of residents from the affected tower and adjacent buildings. Roads were cleared, emergency lanes secured, and traffic was rerouted to ensure unhindered access for rescue vehicles.

While the fire tragically led to five fatalities, authorities confirmed that all 19 injured individuals were quickly transferred to hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed, but all are receiving necessary medical care.

Coordinated Rescue Efforts

Brigadier General Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al Naour, Director-General of Operations and Security Support at Sharjah Police, praised the coordination between different emergency units on the ground.

“All specialised teams worked continuously from the very first moments, prioritising the safety of residents and ensuring effective evacuation from the building and neighbouring towers,” he said.

He also highlighted the valuable support from the Emirates Red Crescent, whose logistical assistance played a key role in streamlining the emergency response.

Investigation Underway

In the aftermath of the incident, Sharjah Police’s forensic laboratory team has launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Specialised units remain on-site, conducting structural assessments and forensic inspections as part of the legally mandated post-incident procedures.

Authorities have yet to release information on the origin of the blaze or whether the building’s fire safety systems functioned as intended.

A City in Mourning, A Community in Shock

As residents of the tower come to terms with the loss, many have been temporarily displaced, with some receiving aid from local relief organisations. The tragedy has prompted renewed public discussion around high-rise safety protocols, fire detection systems, and emergency preparedness across residential buildings in the UAE.

Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid the area while investigations are ongoing and to refrain from spreading misinformation or unverified updates on social media.

Dubai Airport retains title as world’s busiest for international travel

Published

on

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has once again soared to global prominence, maintaining its crown as the world’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic in 2024, according to newly released data from Airports Council International (ACI) World.

The airport’s unwavering lead underscores Dubai’s pivotal role in connecting the globe, a feat achieved amid a steady recovery in global aviation.

A Surging Comeback for Air Travel

Preliminary figures from ACI World reveal that nearly 9.5 billion passengers traveled through airports worldwide in 2024 — a robust 9 per cent increase over 2023, and a 3.8 per cent rise compared to 2019, just before the pandemic upended travel norms.

Among the top 10 busiest airports, Dubai ranked second overall, following Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, but held firm as the world leader for international traffic. Dallas Fort Worth International rounded out the top three.

Collectively, these 10 aviation hubs processed around 855 million passengers, representing nearly 9 per cent of global traffic — a clear indication of recovery and growing global mobility.

Why Dubai Continues to Lead

DXB’s success isn’t just about numbers, it reflects the city’s enduring position as a global crossroads for travelers, airlines, and cargo alike. With top-tier facilities, world-class connectivity, and its role as a hub for Emirates Airline, Dubai has cemented itself as the go-to gateway for Europe, Asia, and Africa.

In terms of air cargo, global volumes jumped 8.4 per cent year-over-year, reaching over 124 million metric tonnes, further highlighting aviation’s resurgence.

A Testament to Resilience

“Amid global challenges, the resilience of the world’s busiest airports shines,” said ACI World Director-General Justin Erbacci. “These hubs are vital arteries of trade, commerce, and connectivity.”

He added, “As air travel grows, ACI World stands ready to support its members, ensuring the smooth flow of people and goods that drive global economic, social, and cultural progress.”

Planning to travel to Syria? UAE flights resuming soon

Published

on

The UAE is set to resume air travel with Syria, according to a statement issued by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Monday.

The announcement marks a significant step in restoring connectivity between the two nations, as efforts are currently underway to complete the necessary technical and regulatory procedures required to relaunch commercial flights.

The GCAA confirmed that joint coordination is in progress with its Syrian counterparts to facilitate the resumption of air traffic in a way that enhances travel and trade.

“This move comes as part of the UAE’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and fostering connectivity that supports economic and humanitarian exchange,” the authority said in a statement.

Once operational, the reinstated air routes are expected to significantly ease passenger movement between the UAE and Syria while also boosting cargo traffic and trade flows. The return of direct flights will offer a convenient travel option for thousands of residents and nationals with ties to Syria, as well as business professionals and logistics operators.

Although specific details regarding flight schedules, routes, and airline operators have yet to be announced, the GCAA noted that updates would follow once final approvals are granted and logistics are confirmed.

The development follows a broader trend of regional engagement and reflects the UAE’s efforts to rebuild diplomatic and economic bridges across the region.

Airlines operating in the UAE are expected to reveal individual plans to service Syrian destinations, subject to regulatory clearance and market demand.
