US President Donald Trump arrived in the UAE on Thursday, marking the final leg of his Middle East tour, which included visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar. His arrival in Abu Dhabi was met with a warm reception from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the presidential terminal.
The visit underscores the deep-rooted relationship between the US and the UAE, focusing on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, defence, and technology. The UAE remains the United States’ largest trading partner in the Middle East and North Africa region.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the trip as a “historic return to the Middle East,” highlighting the administration’s commitment to strengthening ties with Gulf nations.
During his visit, President Trump and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed discussed opportunities to bolster the long-term strategic partnership between the two countries. The discussions emphasised expanding partnerships and accelerating investments in key sectors such as artificial intelligence, technology, infrastructure, and healthcare.
Analysts view Trump’s choice of the Gulf as his first overseas destination in his second term as a reaffirmation of the region’s critical role in global affairs.
