Aim is to retain ILT20 Trophy for Gulf Giants, says young star all-rounder Aayan Khan

Published

One of the players to watch out for in the upcoming International League T20 is young bowling all-rounder Aayan Khan, who will turn out for the Adani Sportsline-owned Gulf Giants for a second season running. Aayan, who made history in the T20 World Cup 2022 by becoming the youngest player to play at the tournament at the age of just 16, was also a part of the Gulf Giants team that won the trophy the first time around. The youngster is ready to help the Adani Sportsline-owned side retain the ILT20 Trophy.

“It feels great to be playing for the Gulf Giants in the second season of the ILT20, especially after winning the first season of the tournament. Having already won the trophy, retaining it is the main objective for season 2 of the mega cricket extravaganza. This team plays like a family. Hence, the first season was a remarkable one. We enjoyed every moment,” he told the media in an interaction.

In a squad with multiple international talents, one player whom the spinner is keen on working with is Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman. “One player I am very excited to be playing with is the Afghanistan spinner, Mujeeb Ur Rahman. He is a great spinner. I expect to learn a lot from him, especially if he is in form.”

At the same time, he also looks forward to sharing the dressing room with some of the biggest names in Caribbean cricket as well. “There are two players from the West Indies — Dominic Drakes and Carlos Braithwaite — I have played with them in other leagues as well. So, the bond that I have with these players is very good. I have learnt a lot from these players while sharing the dressing room with them. In T20s, they have a very good name and I am excited to be playing another season with them,” shared an excited Aayan.

Concluding his conversation, the spinner wants to translate his form in the last few months and take his team to the next level. He also credited the improvement of the UAE side and sees a bright future for the sport in the country. “I want to give my 100% in every match and make a name for myself. This is my aim with both the national team and with the Adani Sportsline owned Gulf Giants. I have been playing very well for the last year and I hope to continue this form heading into season two of the ILT20.”

“The future of cricket in the UAE is very bright. The grounds and training facilities have improved massively, and we can see many young players coming out of UAE in the future. Earlier, as you can see we reached the U19 Asia Cup final, which itself is a sign of the bright future of the sport in the country,” he added.

Motorists alert: Parking hiked in Al Karama and other Dubai residential areas

Published

on

Parking in some of Dubai’s busiest residential neighbourhoods, including Al Karama and Qusais, has become more expensive.

Parkin PJSC, the emirate’s largest public parking operator, announced yesterday revised parking tariffs for several key areas across the city. The new rates, which fall under Zones W and WP, were shared via the company’s official account on the social media platform X.

Motorists will now face updated charges in areas such as Al Karama (318W), Al Qusais First (32W), Madinat Dubai and Al Melaheya (321W), as well as Al Kifaf (324WP).

New Parking Tariffs

In Al Kifaf (Zone WP), now classified as a premium parking zone, motorists will be charged:

  • Dh6 per hour during peak hours (8am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm)
  • Dh4 per hour during off-peak hours (10am to 4pm and 8pm to 10pm)

Premium zones, identified by signage and codes such as ‘345CP’, are typically located in high-demand areas near public transport stations. These areas feature enhanced parking infrastructure and stricter enforcement.

Meanwhile, standard zones, which include Al Karama (318W), Al Qusais First (32W), Madinat Dubai and Al Melaheyah (321W), will maintain a flat rate of Dh4 per hour, with no variation based on time of day.

New System to Manage Demand

The changes come as part of Dubai’s newly introduced variable parking tariff system, rolled out on April 4, aimed at easing congestion and better managing parking demand across the city.

Under the new framework:

  • Peak hours are from 8am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm
  • Off-peak hours are from 10am to 4pm and 8pm to 10pm
  • Parking charges are applicable from 8am to 10pm, with free parking on Sundays and public holidays

Motorists are advised to check signage or use the Parkin mobile app to stay updated on zone classifications and tariffs to avoid fines.

Online scam alert: Abu Dhabi Police reveal new tactics used by fraudsters

Published

on

Abu Dhabi Police have issued a fresh warning to the public following a spike in online fraud cases involving fake auctions, counterfeit products, and bogus job offers.

One of the scams involves fraudsters placing online ads for luxury watches. Victims are tricked into transferring money, only to discover that the watches are fake upon delivery.

Authorities also warned of fraudulent trading platforms. These websites often appear legitimate, with professional ads and fake profiles that simulate profits to convince victims to deposit more funds. However, when victims attempt to withdraw their money, they are blocked.

The police also cautioned residents against paying deposits for fake vehicle plate numbers, properties, or insurance policies promoted on scam websites. Some fake platforms mimic popular restaurant or retail brands to steal money through fake offers and then drain users’ bank cards.

Job seekers were specifically warned about fake employment schemes, where scammers pretend to be recruitment agents or company representatives, sometimes even using the names of real events. Victims are asked to pay fees for jobs that don’t exist.

Abu Dhabi Police urged residents to:

  • Never share confidential banking information, including card numbers, passwords, PINs, or verification codes.
  • Be cautious of suspicious calls or messages requesting to update banking details.
  • Report any suspicious activity by calling the Aman service on 8002626, sending a text to 2828, or visiting the nearest police station.

The warning comes as part of ongoing efforts to fight cybercrime and protect community members from financial loss.
