Apple Inc has unveiled two new MacBook Pro models based on its own powerful chips called the M1 Pro and M1 Max.
With the use of its own chips, the tech giant has dropped Intel Corps processors, and separated its devices from the PC industry.
According to Apple, its devices can work better than the rival laptops based on Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.
In an online event, the American company introduced the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with starting price tag of $1,999 that ranges up to $6,099.
This time, Apple has targeted film makers, audio producers and professional photographers who were seeking a powerful tool. In recent years, Microsoft Corp and other competitors have also been trying to attract these professionals with their powerful devices.
New chips have already boosted Apple’s Mac sales by 32 percent to $26 billion in the first nine months of fiscal 2021.
Ben Bajarin, head of consumer technologies at Creative Strategies, said Apple’s first laptop chip – M1, had some advantages over Intel’s chips. The chip was used in the company’s MacBook Air and less-expensive Pro models. But those devices have become more unambiguous with the professional-grade chips, which would be used in lower-end models in the coming years, he added.
Apple’s chip chief Johny Srouji said the M1 Max chip consumes up to 100 watts less power than other high-end laptop chips. He said this feature would make battery life better, claiming that the M1 Max is the most powerful chip ever built.
Apple said both devices will start shipping next week. The 14-inch model will start at $1,999 and the 16-inch model will start at $2,499.
At the same time, Apple has also launched several new music-related gadgets. Apple announced a $5-a-month version of its streaming music service on its devices by using its Siri voice assistant.
At the event, the company also introduced a third generation of its AirPods wireless ear buds, which will cost $179 and start shipping next week.
