Dubai shoppers can soon file complaints against retailers via WhatsApp

Starting next month, shoppers in Dubai can easily file complaints against retailers using WhatsApp. They can report issues directly to the Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade (DCCPFT). This will help ensure that complaints are handled quickly and efficiently.

AI-Powered Complaint System

Ahmad Ali Moosa, Director of the Consumer Protection Department at DCCPFT, explained that the system will use artificial intelligence to simplify the process. Consumers will need to:

Upload relevant documents
1. Answer a few questions about their purchase or dispute
2. Receive a resolution letter on official Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) letterhead

This letter will act as an official document, and retailers will be required to comply. If they refuse, penalties will be imposed.

Key Requirements for Filing Complaints

To ensure complaints are processed smoothly, consumers must provide:
1. Invoices and other proof of purchase
2. Contracts (if applicable)

Without these documents, complaints won’t be accepted.

Easier Access for Shoppers

Currently, consumers can report complaints via DET’s website or by calling 600545555. However, the new WhatsApp service will make the process more accessible and convenient for everyone.

The WhatsApp number for filing complaints will be the same as the DET call centre number, ensuring consistency for users.

Stay Safe from Scams

Ahmad also urged residents to verify the official DET website (consumerrights.ae) to avoid scams. The service is currently in the testing phase and will launch in early Q2.
