Jaffna Titans continue form, Hambantota Bangla Tigers pick crucial win in Lanka T10 Super League

The rain has played spoilsport in Lanka T10 Super League that is being played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium but the spectators finally got to witness some action on Saturday. Jaffna Titans continued their stunning show in the competition and defeated Galle Marvels by 7 wickets.

Chasing 106, Jaffna went over the line in the 9th over. It was once again the openers Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Kusal Mendis who thoroughly dominated the opponents’ bowling unit and stitched a stand of 53 runs for the first wicket in just 4.1 overs before Mendis departed for 31 off 16.

Cadmore who struck a 21-ball 32 was then joined by Charith Asalanka. Asalanka also chipped in with a brisk knock of 25 off 11 before getting out. The contributions from the three top-order batters were enough for the side to clinch a win. Earlier, Galle Marvels started off the proceedings well with the bat but lost the plot in middle overs to get reduced to 84/7 before eventually getting restricted to 105/7 in 10 overs.

Hambantota Bangla Tigers clinch win in low-scoring encounter

Hambantota Bangla Tigers defeated Nuwara Eliya Kings by 7 wickets in a low-scoring contest. The Kings had handed Bangla Tigers a target of 83 which they chased down in 7.1 overs. Hambantota lost an early wicket after opener Mohammad Shahzad was out on the very first ball of the innings but Kusal Perera anchored the chase and ended up scoring 33 off 15. Apart from him, Dasun Shanaka scored 20 off 10 while Shevon Daniel remained not out at 17 off 12 and Sabbir Rahman struck an unbeaten 5-ball 11.

Nuwara Eliya Kings were earlier rattled by Richard Gleeson who scalped three wickets in just one over and eventually returned with figures of 3/23 in 2 overs. Captain Saurabh Tiwary (26 off 20) and Benny Howell (29 off 14) tried to get things back on track but the side could only manage 82/6 in 10 overs.

The first match between Colombo Jaguars and Kandy Bolts was abandoned without toss due to rain.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries and celebrity guests, further amplifying its grandeur. Among the notable attendees were Emirati sports enthusiast Mr. Tariq Al Habtoor, Indian wrestler Sangram Singh, Miss Nicole Verma, and Mr. Yatin Patel, Deputy Consul General of India in Dubai. Adding star power to the evening, Bollywood legend Suniel Shetty expressed his enthusiasm for the sport’s global potential.

Jaffna Titans secure dominant win over Colombo Jaguars on rain-hit Day 2 of Lanka T10

Jaffna Titans registered a comprehensive win against Colombo Jaguars by 40 runs to add two more points to the tally in Lanka T10 Super League at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on a rain-marred second day. Jaffna rode on some spectacular batting from opener Kusal Mendis and his Sri Lankan teammate Charith Asalanka to post a mammoth 138/6 in 10 overs on the board.

While Mendis struck 37 off just 19 deliveries, Asalanka notched up 56 off 24 with the help of five maximums and as many fours. For Jaguars, skipper Angelo Mathews and Ali Khan picked up two wickets each.

Later, bowlers and especially youngster Treveen Mathew who has been gathering praise from everyone for his spin bowling did the job for the Titans and restricted the opposition to 98/6. Colombo Jaguars never really got the start they needed and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Treveen Mathew once again showed his skills and returned with bowling figures of 3/18 in 20 overs.

Earlier, first match on Day 2 between Kandy Bolts and Nuwara Eliya Kings was called off due to rain after just 3.3 overs. Kandy Bolts who were batting first had put up 38/1 with Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka being not out at 26 off 11 when rain arrived. The second fixture between Galle Marvels and Hambantota Bangla Tigers was abandoned without toss.
