Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has begun building a new 850-metre lane for vehicles travelling from Ras Al Khor Road towards Nad Al Hamar Intersection, near Nasser Bin Lootah Mosque. The project also includes widening the storage lane at the intersection for traffic approaching from Al Rebat Street and turning left towards Nad Al Hamar.
Part of RTA’s 2025 Rapid Traffic Improvements, Summer Plan, the upgrade is set for completion by the end of August. It aims to cut congestion, boost safety, and improve the road network’s overall efficiency.
Once complete, the new lane will increase capacity by 33%, from 4,800 to 6,400 vehicles per hour, and reduce travel times from 15 minutes to 11 minutes during peak evening hours. The expanded storage lane will also shorten queues at Nad Al Hamar Intersection, smoothing traffic flow towards Ras Al Khor Road.
The improvements are expected to benefit residents in Nad Al Hamar, Al Rashidiya, and Al Qusais, as well as travellers heading to Dubai International Airport. RTA said the expansion will strengthen connectivity between key residential communities and major destinations while supporting its vision to be a global leader in seamless, sustainable mobility.
