The Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) has kicked off its annual Pink October campaign with record-breaking turnout, offering free breast cancer screenings across more than 86 locations throughout the UAE this month.

The month-long initiative, running through October 31, provides complimentary clinical examinations, mammograms, and ultrasound screenings at eight fixed clinics and multiple mobile units strategically positioned across all seven emirates.

Unprecedented Access to Early Detection

The campaign aims to make early detection accessible to citizens and residents of all nationalities and age groups.

The eight permanent clinics, operating daily from 4 pm to 10 pm (except Khorfakkan, 10 am-4 pm), are located at high-traffic venues including Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah, Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi, City Walk in Dubai, and shopping destinations in Al Ain, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah.

Corporate and Community Engagement

Breaking new ground in workplace wellness, the Pink Caravan is offering companies the opportunity to book mobile clinics for on-site employee screenings. Female employees aged 40 and above can receive mammogram screenings, while clinical breast examinations are available for all staff aged 20 and above, regardless of gender.

The campaign’s highlight is the second annual community event at Aljada, Sharjah (October 10-12), featuring free screenings alongside family entertainment, play zones, competitions, and sporting activities.

Additional community events include:

  • Battle Cancer Challenge at The Seven Stadium, Dubai (October 25)
  • Pink Tour with Los Habibies at Dubai Expo City (October 12)

Aisha Al Mulla, Director of FOCP, emphasised that Sharjah continues to solidify its leadership role in health and humanitarian initiatives, aligning with the UAE’s national commitment to prioritising public health.

The UAE has introduced a new national guide aimed at improving the quality of food and beverages available in schools.

The National Guide for Food and Beverages in the School Environment is designed to help schools, suppliers, and service providers offer healthier and more nutritious options to students throughout the day.

Officials say the guide focuses on building healthy eating habits among students while ensuring they receive the energy needed for academic performance. It promotes balanced, age-appropriate meals that support physical growth, improve concentration, and boost overall learning outcomes.

The framework also sets clear standards for food safety, preparation, and storage, while defining responsibilities for schools, local authorities, and food suppliers. It applies to all educational institutions, including public and private schools, as well as centres for People of Determination.

Schools to keep watch

Under the new rules, schools must ensure full compliance with nutrition and hygiene standards, while suppliers are required to meet strict guidelines and maintain valid permits. Parents will also have access to canteen menus, and schools must track and address any food-related complaints.

The guide introduces a structured system for monitoring and enforcement, with local authorities responsible for inspections, compliance checks, and reporting.

A list of banned items has also been outlined to encourage healthier choices. These include sugary drinks, fried foods, chocolates, processed meats, and products containing nuts.

Authorities say the initiative marks a major step toward creating a healthier school environment and supporting long-term student well-being across the UAE.
