UAE weather: Heavy rain triggers water accumulation as unstable conditions persist

Heavy rain fell across scattered parts of the UAE on Friday, leading to flowing valleys and significant water accumulation in low-lying areas, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

The NCM said the unsettled conditions are expected to continue for up to three days, driven by the extension of a surface low-pressure system accompanied by an upper atmospheric low-pressure system.

On Friday, the lowest temperature dropped to 8.5°C, while maximum temperatures ranged between 25°C and 30°C. Minimum temperatures were recorded between 11°C and 17°C across the country.

Saturday’s forecast indicates partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy skies, with the formation of cumulonimbus clouds that may bring rainfall to coastal, northern and eastern regions. Winds will be northwesterly to southwesterly, moderate to active at times, and occasionally strong enough to raise dust, with speeds reaching up to 50 km/h. Sea conditions are expected to be rough in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

On Sunday, weather conditions will remain generally partly cloudy, with low clouds forming over islands and some coastal and western areas. There is still a chance of rain, while humidity is expected to increase at night and into Monday morning in some western inland areas. Winds will be southwesterly to northwesterly, occasionally active, with speeds of up to 35 km/h, and seas ranging from rough to moderate.

Monday’s weather will be partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy, with clouds appearing over islands and western regions. Humidity will persist overnight and into Tuesday morning in some inland areas. Winds will shift from northeasterly to southeasterly, light to moderate in speed, becoming active at times, while sea conditions ease to light to moderate.

Tuesday is forecast to be similar, with partly cloudy skies and occasional cloud cover over islands and western areas. Humid conditions are expected overnight into Wednesday morning, with light to moderate winds and calmer seas in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Authorities continue to urge residents to remain cautious, particularly when travelling, as changing weather conditions may impact road safety and visibility.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced the resumption of several major bus routes following temporary suspensions caused by heavy rainfall and unstable weather conditions across the UAE.

The authority confirmed that services are now operating again, allowing passengers to travel safely and more smoothly, although minor delays may still occur as operations gradually return to full capacity.

Several key routes have resumed, including:

  • E315 between Etisalat Bus Station and Muwaileh (Sharjah)
  • E101 to Abu Dhabi, now operating from Al Ghubaiba Bus Station instead of Ibn Battuta Bus Station due to earlier waterlogging
  • E411 service to Ajman from Etisalat Bus Station
  • Route 201 from Al Ghubaiba Bus Station to Al Ain

The service restoration comes after disruptions triggered by adverse weather, which led to the temporary suspension of multiple bus routes to ensure passenger safety.

RTA said all necessary safety and operational measures are in place to support a smooth return to normal services.

Advice for commuters

Passengers are encouraged to:

  • Allow extra travel time
  • Check updates through official RTA channels
  • Follow safety guidelines while commuting

Authorities added that services will continue to stabilise over the coming days as conditions improve.

UAE to see moderate rain and strong winds this week

Published

Spread the love

The UAE is set to experience weak weather conditions this week, linked to a low-pressure trough moving across the country, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Cloud cover is expected to build from early Tuesday and continue through midday Wednesday, bringing light to moderate rainfall across scattered areas. At times, heavier showers could impact parts of the eastern and northern regions.

Winds will remain light to moderate but will strengthen during periods of cloud activity. By Wednesday afternoon, they are forecast to shift northwesterly, becoming fresh to strong, especially over marine areas, kicking up dust and sand in exposed regions and contributing to a noticeable drop in temperatures.

Sea conditions will also deteriorate, with the Arabian Gulf expected to turn rough to very rough at times, while the Sea of Oman may become occasionally rough.

Day-by-day outlook

  • Monday: Generally clear to partly cloudy, with increasing clouds overnight in western areas. Winds may raise dust at times, with speeds reaching up to 40 km/h.
  • Tuesday: Partly cloudy to overcast, with chances of light to moderate rain. Winds remain moderate, with occasional gusts.
  • Wednesday: Cloudy with rain in various areas and a drop in temperatures, particularly in the west. Strong winds may reduce visibility due to blowing dust.
  • Thursday: Conditions improve to clear or partly cloudy skies, with cooler temperatures. Early morning humidity may lead to fog or mist in some areas.

Authorities advise residents to stay up to date on weather alerts, especially those travelling or heading out to sea, as conditions can change rapidly during this period.

Lost your vehicle number plate during recent UAE rains? Here’s what to do

Motorists across the UAE now have easier and faster ways to replace lost vehicle number plates, thanks to updated digital services and targeted support initiatives introduced by authorities.

Several residents across the UAE reported losing their vehicle number plates following last week’s severe weather, as heavy rains and flooding swept across multiple emirates.

In Abu Dhabi, drivers who lose a single number plate can now complete the replacement process entirely online through the TAMM platform. However, those who lose both plates are required to visit a police station and file an official report before proceeding. Applicants must present a valid Emirates ID, and recovered plates must be returned to the nearest service centre.

Replacement fees vary depending on the type and number of plates. Costs range from Dh35 for a single short plate to Dh70 for two long plates, while special and identity plates are priced significantly higher. Once the application is submitted and payment is completed, new plates are typically issued within two days. Authorities have also limited single plate replacement requests to once per month unless handled directly at a service centre.

Meanwhile, in Dubai, residents can quickly report lost or found number plates using a dedicated mobile app available on both iOS and Android devices. The app also allows users to request a Lost Certificate, which can be used for official purposes with other entities. This digital approach ensures convenience, particularly during adverse weather conditions.

The authorities are issuing “To Whom It May Concern” certificates for vehicles affected by adverse weather conditions across the UAE. The service allows customers to apply for the certificate through the official website or the Dubai Police smart application.

In Sharjah, a temporary initiative has been launched to support vulnerable residents affected by recent weather disruptions. Elderly individuals and people with disabilities can request free replacement and delivery of lost number plates by contacting the police call centre. The initiative runs for three days, starting March 29 and eliminates the need for in-person visits.

These measures reflect a broader push across the UAE to enhance public services, improve accessibility, and reduce the time and effort required for essential administrative procedures.
