UAE drivers are signing up in large numbers for the Ministry of Interior’s Accident-Free Day pledge, which gives motorists the chance to have four black points removed from their records by committing to safe driving on August 25.

The campaign coincides with the first day of the new school year and aims to boost road safety, particularly in school zones.

Motorists across the country have welcomed the initiative, which is part of a wider series of UAE road safety campaigns rewarding those who follow traffic laws.

The pledge requires drivers to obey all traffic rules, including wearing seat belts, observing speed limits, keeping a safe distance, giving way to pedestrians and emergency vehicles, and avoiding mobile phone use.

Registration is available via the Ministry’s official portal, and points will be deducted automatically on September 15 for those who complete the day without violations.

How to take part in ‘Accident-Free Day’

Motorists can register for the Ministry of Interior’s campaign in just a few minutes:

  1. Log in – Visit moi.gov.ae and sign in using your UAE Pass.
  2. Find the initiative – Go to Smart Services in the left menu and select ‘Initiative of a Day Without Accidents’.
  3. Pledge your commitment – Agree to the safe driving rules, including keeping a safe distance, yielding to pedestrians, wearing your seat belt, observing speed limits, avoiding distractions, and giving way to emergency vehicles.
  4. Confirm participation – Click ‘I agree’ to complete your pledge. A participation certificate will be emailed to you within minutes.

If you follow all campaign rules and avoid traffic violations on August 25, the Ministry will remove four black points from your licence on September 15.

Pedestrians in Abu Dhabi are being reminded to use designated bridges, tunnels and crossings to stay safe and help reduce road accidents, according to Abu Dhabi Police.

The advisory comes as part of GCC Traffic Week 2026, held under the theme “I Cross Safely,” which focuses on improving road safety awareness across the region.

Officials warned that crossing roads from undesignated areas remains a high-risk behaviour, putting both pedestrians and drivers in danger, especially on busy roads where vehicles may not be able to stop in time.

Pedestrian crossings in place

Authorities highlighted that the UAE’s road network includes well-equipped pedestrian bridges, tunnels and marked crossings, designed to ensure safe and smooth movement across major roads.

Shared responsibility

Police are urging residents and visitors alike to follow traffic rules and act responsibly, stressing that road safety depends on collective efforts from both pedestrians and motorists.

For residents, the message is simple: use the right crossing points to stay safe and avoid unnecessary risks.
