Praggnanandhaa, Nodirbeck, Arjun named among Superstar Men for Tech Mahindra Global Chess League Season 2

The Global Chess League, a joint venture between  FIDE and Tech Mahindra, today announced its star-studded list of men players for the second season, scheduled to be held from 3rd to 12th October at Friends House in London.

Joining the ranks of Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Viswanathan Anand in the second season are returning Superstars, including World No. 4 Arjun Erigaisi, World No. 6 Nodirbek Abdusattorov, World No. 8 Praggnanandhaa R, and World No. 10 Wei Yi. Praggnanandhaa R, who stole the limelight in the prodigy round of the first season and was awarded Player of the Tournament for his exceptional performance, will compete in the Superstar men’s category.

Making the competition even more compelling, Vidit Gujrathi, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Richárd Rapport, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Teimour Radjabov, Alexander Grischuk, Parham Maghsoodloo, and Vladislav Artemiev will also be a part of the 12-member list of Superstar men players for the second season.

The first-of-its-kind franchise-based league features a total of six teams consisting of six players – one Icon player, two Superstar male players, two Superstar female players, and one prodigy in each team. In the tournament, each team will play a total of 10 matches in a double round-robin format, with the winner of each match being decided in a best-of-six board scoring system.

Dubai Metro Music Festival set to light up 5 Stations starting September 21

The Dubai Metro Music Festival returns later this month for a week-long celebration of diverse global rhythms and melodies.

The fourth edition, which runs from September 21 to 27, will transform five major metro stations – The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, BurJuman, Union, and DMCC – into vibrant musical hubs.

Metro commuters can look forward to daily performances by 20 talented musicians from both the UAE and around the world. These artists will showcase a wide range of instruments and musical styles, adding a unique touch to the daily commute.

Rashed Al Mulla, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), highlighted the festival’s significance, noting it coincides with the Dubai Metro’s 15th anniversary.

Shaima Al Suwaidi, Director of Brand Dubai, expressed excitement about the festival’s return, which has become a beloved annual event.

She emphasised that this year’s event will feature an extraordinary lineup of global talent, turning everyday commutes into vibrant showcases of artistic excellence.

Festival-goers can expect a rich variety of performances, from classical to contemporary, including unique acts featuring instruments like the Qanun, accordion, and even homemade creations.

Highlights include a performance by a nine-year-old Qanun prodigy, a piano showcase by a 14-year-old Emirati boy with autism, and innovative acts using recycled materials.

The festival will also feature beatboxing, a puppet show with live music, and dynamic drumming performances with light effects. Performances will be held daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, rotating across all five metro stations.

FanCode Signs 3 Year Deal for Streaming Rights of Zim Afro T10, Abu Dhabi T10 and Lanka T10

T Ten Global has announced a digital partnership with FanCode in India. The deal will make FanCode the exclusive streaming partner for the upcoming Zim Afro T10, Abu Dhabi T10 and the Lanka T10, for next 3 years.

After a successful inaugural season, Zim Afro T10 is back for the second edition, starting September 21 and is expected to produce 9 days of high-quality cricket, with the likes of David Warner, Dawid Malan, Yasir Shah, Carlos Brathwaite, and Colin Munro, all in the mix.

The tournament will put the spotlight on cricket’s fastest format at the Harare Sports Club. The six franchises in the tournament are the Harare Bolts, Bulawayo Brave Jaguars, Cape Town Samp Army, Durban Wolves, Jo’Burg Bangla Tigers and the NYS Lagos.

Each day will comprise of three white-ball matches, with the first scheduled for 3 pm local time and 6:30pm IST. The second game of the day will be at 5:15pm local time and 8:45pm IST, while the third game of the day will see the players take the field at 7:30pm local time and 11pm IST.

During this festival of cricket, a total of 21 games will be played in the league stage for the Zim Afro T10, and after that the knockout phase will commence. The top 2 teams will square off in Qualifier 1, with the winner going through to the final. The third and fourth placed teams will then play the Eliminator, where the winner goes through to Qualifier 2, to face the runner-up of Qualifier 1. The team that wins Qualifier 2 will eventually play the winner of Qualifier 1 in the final, which is scheduled for the evening of September 29.
