Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the full reopening of Emirates Road will take place on August 25, just in time for the back-to-school rush.
The 14-kilometre stretch, a vital corridor linking Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, has undergone major rehabilitation to improve safety, driving comfort and traffic flow.
The project, carried out in phases over the past three months, included resurfacing both fast and slow lanes using laser detection technology to identify structural issues. In high-traffic areas, multiple layers of asphalt were laid to ensure long-lasting durability.
Abdullah Lootah, Director of Road and Facilities Maintenance at the Traffic and Roads Agency, said the large-scale maintenance work was necessary after inspections revealed that heavy truck movement had lowered the Pavement Quality Index to 85 per cent, below Dubai’s benchmark of 90. He added that the RTA expects the project to be fully completed by August 25.
The upgrade is expected to save drivers significant time during peak hours, with the RTA highlighting that smoother traffic will benefit motorists heading across all three emirates.
