Abu Dhabi authorities have announced temporary traffic restrictions on heavy vehicles and labour buses as part of New Year’s Eve crowd and traffic management plans.
The restrictions will be in place from 12pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, until 6am on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
During this period, trucks, heavy freight vehicles and labour transport buses will be prohibited from entering or circulating within Abu Dhabi Island, particularly in core traffic zones where large New Year celebrations are expected.
Authorities also confirmed that labour buses will be restricted on Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road (E22) during the same time frame.
In addition, vehicle movement restrictions will apply on Hazza Bin Sultan Street in Al Ain, starting from 12pm on December 31 until 1am on January 1, 2026.
Officials said the measures form part of wider traffic and public safety operations rolled out during major events, including New Year celebrations, to help manage congestion, ensure smoother traffic flow and enhance road safety.
Motorists and commercial transport operators have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, use alternative routes outside Abu Dhabi Island, and strictly follow instructions issued by traffic authorities to avoid fines, delays or vehicle impoundment.
Abu Dhabi is preparing to welcome New Year 2026 with a series of celebrations, public events and safety operations across the emirate, with authorities urging residents and visitors to cooperate with traffic measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable start to the year.
