Rules about Covid safety that should be followed for setting up Iftar tents during Ramadan have been spelt out by the authorities in the UAE.
A ban was imposed on Iftar tents to check Covid in the last two years.
Tents can’t be pitched without permits, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) said. These permits have to be acquired from the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC). The location of the tents and the maximum capacity can be decided by the authorities, the NCEMA pointed out.
People who are inside the tents should keep a distance of at least one metre between each other.
The tents must be in the form of a canopy opened from all sides or be air-conditioned.
To ensure there’s no crowding, the entry will be allowed in a staggered way.
The faithful can go inside the tent only two hours before Iftar.
To streamline the exit and entry process, security guards or volunteers must be deployed.
At all entrance and exit points, posters explaining the safety protocols must be displayed.
It will be compulsory to have single-use tablecloths. Use of disposable plates, glasses and spoons is a must. Wearing mask is also mandatory.
“All measures announced in the current protocol are subject to modification based on the global and local health situation,” said NCEMA.
