Majid Al Futtaim, Dubai’s retail giant, is taking orders delivery service to another level with the use of self-driving robots.
To innovate Carrefour’s delivery capabilities and to meet its growing online orders, the group has partnered with Yandex, one of the largest IT companies in Europe.
In a statement, the group said the deal will help Carrefour become the first retailer to use self-driving robots for delivering orders in the region.
Through this delivery service, which is scheduled to be launched early next year, customers in selected neighbourhoods across the UAE could receive their online orders via robots, the statement said, adding that the customers will also be able to track their orders’ movement in real time on the MAF Carrefour App.
It stated that the robots can efficiently plan the safest route in real time, detect approaching vehicles and pedestrians, and travel at speeds of up to 8 kilometres per hour.
Majid Al Futtaim Retail CEO Hani Weiss said that with the support of Yandex and the RTA, his company will explore this innovative solution to cater for its customers with greater convenience and speed with their online orders.
He said that Majid Al Futtaim is making the idea that was once considered science fiction a reality for Carrefour’s customers.
