The wet season has arrived in the UAE, bringing light to moderate rainfall across the country. While the cooler temperatures are welcome, wet roads can create hazardous driving conditions. Authorities have issued safety warnings, urging motorists to take extra precautions. The Met Office has forecast rain, humidity, and rough seas in several regions.

To ensure a safe journey during rainy weather, follow these essential driving tips:
Stay Alert and Focused
Always remain vigilant and anticipate potential mistakes from other drivers.
Avoid distractions—do not use your mobile phone or adjust the radio while driving.
Keep both hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road at all times.

Use Lights Correctly
Drive with headlights on low beam; high beams can reduce visibility in wet conditions.
Avoid using hazard lights unless there’s an emergency or extremely poor visibility.

Check Your Vehicle’s Condition
Brakes: Ensure they are in top condition. Wet roads can make them less effective, so have them inspected if you notice squeaking or reduced responsiveness.
Tyres: Check tyre tread and air pressure—worn-out tyres increase the risk of skidding.
Windshield Wipers: Replace hardened or worn-out wiper blades to maintain clear visibility.

Drive Cautiously in Wet Conditions
Avoid flooded areas and valleys, as water levels can rise quickly.
Reduce speed to improve traction and control. Wet roads make it harder to stop suddenly.
Keep a safe following distance to allow enough reaction time in case of sudden stops.
Prevent windshield fogging by adjusting cabin air settings to allow fresh air circulation.
Avoid sharp turns, sudden braking, and overtaking, as they increase the risk of skidding. If your vehicle starts to lose control, reduce speed gradually and stay on course—avoid sudden steering movements.

By following these guidelines, motorists can navigate the wet weather safely and reduce the risk of accidents. Stay cautious, drive responsibly, and keep an eye on weather updates for changing road conditions.

UAE weather alert: Brace for blowing sand and drop in temperature

After hitting a sizzling 47.2°C yesterday in Bada Dafas, Al Dhafra, the UAE is finally in for a bit of relief from the heat, but don’t expect it to be comfortable. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), Tuesday is set to be fair but dusty, with temperatures dipping slightly, especially across western parts of the country.

If you’re inland, you’ll still feel the heat with highs between 39°C and 43°C, while coastal areas and islands can expect slightly cooler conditions hovering between 34°C and 38°C. However, it’ll be cooler in the mountains, with temperatures ranging from 32°C to 37°C.

But while it might feel a bit more bearable, dust is the real problem today. Winds will be light to moderate, but could get gusty at times, reaching up to 40 km/h, especially in the west, kicking up sand and dust and reducing visibility on the roads. That means if you’re driving or working outdoors, you’ll want to take extra precautions.

The Arabian Gulf is expected to get rough by the afternoon, shifting from moderate to very rough, while the Oman Sea will also see choppy conditions later tonight.

Authorities are urging the public to stay alert, especially in areas prone to blowing sand. Reduced visibility and compromised air quality can pose serious risks, not just for drivers but also for people with respiratory conditions or those working outside.

If you’re stepping out today, check the weather, wear a mask if needed, and steer clear of open desert roads.

According to the latest forecast from the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), get ready for hot and humid days across the UAE.

Temperatures could soar close to 50°C in some areas on Monday, making it one of the hottest days so far this year.

Yesterday, the highest recorded temperature was 46.6°C in Tawiyen, Fujairah, at 1.30 pm.

While most parts of the country will see clear, sunny skies, some eastern regions may experience intermittent clouds.

Dusty Conditions and High Winds

Strong winds, blowing at speeds of 15–25 km/h and peaking up to 45 km/h, are kicking up dust and sand across the country.

Motorists are urged to drive carefully, as dust storms could reduce visibility without warning.

Those with allergies should also take precautions if heading outdoors.

High Humidity and Sea Conditions

Humidity levels could climb to 70% today, making it feel even hotter and more uncomfortable outdoors.

At sea, conditions will vary:

  • Arabian Gulf: Slight to moderate waves
