The UAE and Pakistan have officially activated a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports, marking a new milestone in their longstanding bilateral relations.
The announcement was made by Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, in a statement on the social media platform X. Dar confirmed that the visa exemption took effect from July 25, 2025, and is now operational across all UAE airports.
“I am pleased to confirm that I have been informed by UAE authorities that the visa waiver…has been activated,” said Dar, adding that the move applies on a reciprocal basis at all Pakistani airports for UAE diplomatic and official passport holders as well.
Agreement Signed in Abu Dhabi
The two countries signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the 12th session of the Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in Abu Dhabi in late June. The MoU was signed by Dar and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who both agreed that the waiver would come into effect 30 days after signing.
Strengthening Ties
The UAE and Pakistan share close diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties. The UAE is home to over 1.7 million Pakistani nationals, forming one of the country’s largest expatriate communities. Additionally, Pakistan remains a key tourism and trade partner for the Gulf nation.
Since taking office, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made multiple official visits to the UAE, underlining the importance of this strategic relationship.
This visa waiver is strictly limited to diplomatic and official passport holders and does not apply to ordinary passport holders.
