Dubai Police has reminded motorists that driving at excessively slow speeds, below the legal minimum, can result in a Dh400 fine under the Federal Traffic Law.
Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, said the penalty also applies to drivers who fail to give way to faster vehicles approaching from behind, particularly in the left lane.
“The right lane is designated for slower vehicles, while the left lane is for faster vehicles and overtaking,” Brigadier Bin Suwaidan explained.
“Driving too slowly can be just as dangerous as exceeding the speed limit, as it disrupts traffic flow and puts road users at risk.”
He noted that a significant number of accidents occur when vehicles block the left lane at low speeds, forcing others to overtake from the right, a manoeuvre that is both illegal and potentially deadly.
The senior officer urged motorists to stay alert, maintain their designated lane, and only change lanes after ensuring the road is clear and a safe distance is available. He also advised using light signals when switching lanes to warn other drivers and prevent accidents.
