Sharjah is set to receive a major new landmark. Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, a brand-new Exhibition and Convention Centre worth Dh500 million is set to be built in the emirate.
The announcement comes after the purchase of a Dh146 million plot of land located near the Emirates, Al Dhaid and Khorfakkan roads, a location carefully chosen to ease traffic congestion and ensure comfort and safety for nearby residential areas.
According to the Sharjah Ruler, the centre’s position along a main road will make access smoother for visitors, with a dedicated exit allowing motorists to head towards Sharjah city or Al Sajaa with ease.
The project is expected to be completed by November 2027, with plans to host the 46th Sharjah International Book Fair at the new venue, a major shift from its usual home at Expo Centre Sharjah.
Several other large-scale events will also move to the new centre, while Expo Centre Sharjah will refocus on trade fairs, reflecting a clearer division of events across venues.
Addressing traffic concerns around the current Expo Centre, Sheikh Dr Sultan reassured residents that road upgrades are underway, promising smoother traffic flow ahead of the Sharjah International Book Fair in November 2026.
Looking further ahead, plans were also revealed for a future Etihad Rail station near the Al Khulafa Al Rashideen crossroads on Al Wahda Street.
