The UAE Cybersecurity Council has sounded the alarm on a growing digital threat, the rise of AI-generated “deepfake” videos and voice clips that look and sound almost real, but are designed to deceive.
In its latest advisory, the Council warned that deepfake technology is evolving rapidly as artificial intelligence tools become more powerful. These tools can now replicate a person’s face and voice with striking accuracy, making it increasingly difficult to tell what’s real and what’s fake.
Officials cautioned that such content can easily mislead audiences, spread false information, and even damage reputations.
“Public awareness is the first line of defence,” the Council said, urging people to think twice before sharing content of doubtful authenticity.
Residents are advised to verify any videos or audio attributed to public figures, companies, or government entities through official sources before reposting.
The Council also reminded users that Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Countering Rumours and Cybercrimes imposes strict penalties for spreading fake or manipulated content, part of the UAE’s wider effort to combat digital misinformation and online fraud.
With deepfakes becoming harder to detect, the message is clear: Trust, but verify, before you share.
