The Sharjah Executive Council, under the chairmanship of Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, has approved a decision regulating exemption percentages on traffic fines in the emirate.
According to the new rule, traffic offenders will receive a 35 per cent exemption if they pay their fines within 60 days of the violation. This exemption covers the full financial fine, any vehicle impoundment period, the seizure allowance, and any delay penalties.
After the 60-day window, a 25 per cent exemption can still be availed up to one year from the date of the violation. However, this later exemption only applies to the financial fine, not to impoundment or delay penalties.
The new scheme is part of efforts to encourage the timely settlement of traffic fines and promote safer driving behaviour.
