Patna (Bihar) [India], February 12 (ANI): Showering praise on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after the government won the floor test, BJP-JD(U) leaders took a jibe at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Countering “Khela Baaki Hai” remarks of RJD leaders, JDU and BJP leaders launched a scathing attack after victory in the assembly.

The trust vote took place two weeks after Kumar switched sides from the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) to join the NDA.

Nitish Kumar-led government got 129 votes in its favour. The Opposition did not attend the voting as they staged a walkout when Kumar was speaking in the Assembly. The Bihar assembly has a strength of 243 MLAs.

The vote of confidence took place amid a walkout staged by the Opposition as cross-voting happened when three Rashtriya Janata Dal MLAs also voted in support of Nitish Kumar.

RJD MLAs Chetan Anand, Neelam Devi and Prahlad Yadav were seen sitting on the treasury benches in the Bihar Assembly causing a jolt to the Opposition.

According to the letter by RJD MLA Chetan Anand’s brother, Ayushman Anand on Sunday filed a complaint alleging that his brother has been ‘missing’ since February 10 but today RJD MLAs Chetan Anand was seen supporting Nitish Kumar.

Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha said that he will not let Bihar be reduced to slang anymore and will ensure Bihar gets its due respect in the country”They had not even imagined this. We have just shown them a trailer, the entire movie is still pending. Holding their MLAs like bonded labourers is an insult to the MLAs. They will surely learn their lesson from this… I have taken a pledge, that I will fulfil the dream of Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay, and Ram Manohar Lohia of a caste-free society in Bihar… I will welcome all those who will raise the standards of Bihar and the people of Bihar. I will not let Bihar be reduced to slang anymore and will ensure Bihar gets its due respect in the country,” he added.

Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary said that the government will expose the previous government.

“We always talked about an alliance of three parties- JDU, BJP, and the HAM. The corrupt have been explicitly told, that each and every file will be opened and an investigation will be carried out… Whatever these people were doing till 2 days back, will be exposed and the CM has ordered an investigation into this,” he added.

JDU MLC Ashok Choudhary said, “We had the majority earlier too, we have retained our MLAs…We said that we would cross our numbers and we did it.”Union Minister Nityanand Rai said that RJD did not let development reach the people of Bihar.

“Bihar wants development. And in an era of PM Modi’s development model in the country, RJD did not let development reach the people of Bihar… Seeing that RJD and Tejashwi Yadav are working against the people of Bihar, some of their MLAs also moved to NDAs side,” he said.

BJP MLA Shailendra Kumar said, “Those who have done wrong will have to pay. We do not believe in breaking but joining.”JDU MLA Shalini Mishra said, “I had been saying this that ‘khela’ will be done by us. We were sure of the complete majority so the NDA alliance was assured.”JD-U MLA Leshi Singh took a jibe at opposition leaders by reminding them of their “khela hoga” slogans and said that the opposition did not have the numbers.

“The Opposition did not have the numbers…The Opposition leaders had given a slogan “khela hoga” but they couldn’t play and failed,” JDU MLA Leshi Singh said on Monday.

BJP MLA Nitin Nabin said, “If the party stays within the family, then other members of the party will remain unemployed.”Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday took a swipe at his former Mahagathbandhan ally Rashtriya Janata Dal and alleged that the RJD indulged in “corrupt practices” during the party’s rule in the state adding that the Bihar government will initiate a probe into it.

“Since 2005, when I got into power, there has been significant development in Bihar. Before that, his (Tejashwi Yadav’s) father and mother got the opportunity to serve Bihar for 15 years. What did they do?” Bihar CM said.

He further said that earlier there used to be many conflicts between Hindus and Muslims adding that when he came to power, these conflicts stopped.

“I gave them respect but was in pain when I came to know about their malpractices. Where did the money come from? Will launch a probe against alleged corruption by RJD leader,” he added.

Nitish Kumar further asserted that the Bihar government worked for every section of the society.

An FIR has been filed at the Kotwali police station in Patna regarding the kidnapping of JDU MLAs Bima Bharti and Dilip Rai.

JDU MLA Sudhanshu Shekhar has filed an FIR accusing JDU MLA Dr Sanjeev and Sunil Kumar Rai, who are reportedly close to Tejashwi Yadav, of kidnapping JDU MLAs.

Sudhanshu Shekhar has registered a case of kidnapping of JDU MLA Bima Bharti and Dilip Rai. This case was registered late at night on February 11.

This matter came to light today when Dr Sanjeev and Bima Bharti reached the Legislative Assembly late.

“At 8.32 pm on February 9, a WhatsApp call was received from the mobile number of Ranjit Kumar of Hajipur. He told me that Engineer Sunil has come and wants to talk to you. When I talked to him, he asked me to join the Grand Alliance. He offered to give Rs 5 crore now and Rs 5 crore after work is done. If you don’t want to take the money then take a ministerial post. After this, I postponed it saying that I would think about it. After this, he said that if you ask, I will come to your house also,” the complaint reads.

Shekhar said that after this, on February 10, at 10.11 am, a call was received on WhatsApp from former minister Nagmani Kushwaha that Akhilesh Kumar wanted to talk and would contact him soon. “An hour later, at 11.02 minutes, an internet call came from a number and the person calling told his name as Akhilesh and said that he is close to Rahul Gandhi. He said to come to their said and in return whatever mt demand is, will be fulfilled. He asked to support their alliance in the trust vote,” he said.

“The next day in the morning, a person from the Hilsa assembly constituency met him and said that if you voted in favour of RJD in the trust motion on 12th February, you would get a ministerial post or you would get whatever money you wanted,” the FIR reads.

The JD(U) has 45 MLAs in the House of 243 while its partners, the BJP and the Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S), have 79 and four legislators respectively. The NDA has the support of 128 MLAs and the majority mark in the state assembly is 122. (ANI)

UAE students risk repeating a year if absences exceed 15 days, new rules state

Public school students in the UAE could be required to repeat an academic year if their unexcused absences exceed 15 days, under new rules announced by the Ministry of Education.

The updated guidelines exclude absences related to illness, medical travel, official event participation, emergencies, or family bereavements. Students will now be allowed up to five unexcused absences per term, capped at 15 across the year. Any excess will trigger a review, with the student’s file referred to the relevant authorities and child protection services.

The ministry also clarified that absences on Fridays, or on days immediately before or after official holidays, will count as two days. A warning system has been introduced to notify parents on the first day of absence.

Special exemptions will apply to students of determination and those with chronic illnesses. Parents may also appeal within five working days of being notified, ensuring fairness in implementation.

The initiative is aimed at tackling absenteeism, which the ministry said has a direct impact on academic performance. Citing studies, it noted that missing 10 per cent of school days equates to a loss of half an academic year, while absences beyond 20 per cent amount to a full year’s loss in achievement.

Schools have been instructed to create individual support plans for students at risk of frequent absences, including counselling sessions, parent engagement, and incentive programmes.

The ministry added that it will be up to educational boards to decide whether these rules will also extend to private schools.

In a performance that blended emotion, elegance, and East-West harmony, Lebanese-French singer Amanda Maalouf on Wednesday gave a select UAE audience a stirring preview of the upcoming musical Once Upon A Time in Dubai, set to premiere in December 2025.

The exclusive showcase featured Maalouf performing “Habibi,” one of the show’s signature numbers, at an invite-only preview attended by media, partners, and cultural stakeholders. The song—a poignant blend of Arabic influences and Western theatrical arrangement—earned enthusiastic applause, offering a glimpse of what producers are calling “a new kind of musical for a new Dubai.”

“Dubai is more than a setting—it’s a character in this story,” said Stéphane Boukris, co-producer of the musical. “This project is about cultural unity, artistic innovation, and shining a spotlight on a new generation redefining identity in the Middle East. We’re proud to bring this bridge between France and the UAE to life.”

For Maalouf, whose performance marked the first public taste of the show, the moment was deeply personal. “Habibi is a song that speaks from the heart—it’s a journey through love, self-expression, and identity,” she told reporters after the performance. “Performing it here in Dubai, where East and West meet so beautifully, is a dream. This is just the beginning [of great things together].”

The team behind Once Upon A Time in Dubai says the musical is more than entertainment—it’s a cultural project designed to showcase Dubai as a city of stories, voices, and future-forward artistry.

The production is backed by Universal Music and features a cast and crew with international credentials, with more previews and announcements expected soon.

A collaboration between a visionary French team and Universal Music, the musical tells the story of a young generation rising in the heart of Dubai, navigating identity, ambition, and tradition in a rapidly changing world. With original compositions by renowned composer Nazim Khaled and set against the backdrop of the UAE’s global crossroads, the show promises to be a landmark moment for original musical theatre in the region. The story, told through original music and dance, will premiere later this year, with full production details expected to be announced over the coming months.
