India beat England by an innings and 64 runs in the final test to win the five-match series 4-1 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association stadium on Saturday.

Having conceded a lead of 259, England were all out for 195 in the second session on day three of the contest.

Joe Root made 84 and Jonny Bairstow (39) also got a start while other England batters simply surrendered before India’s formidable spin attack.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed 5-77 in his 100th test for a match haul of nine wickets.

Earlier resuming on 473-8, India could add only four runs before losing their last two wickets.

England warhorse James Anderson became the first fast bowler to claim 700 test wickets, when he dismissed Kuldeep Yadav (30) caught behind.

The travelling “Barmy Army” fans gave Anderson a standing ovation but their morale sagged soon after England walked out to bat, having conceded a significant first-innings lead of 259.

India harnessed Ravichandran Ashwin with Jasprit Bumrah for new ball duties, and the off-spinner bowled Ben Duckett (two) in his first over.

The opener had charged so far down the track that he would have been stumped even if he was not bowled.

Ashwin struck again in this third over, dismissing Zak Crawley for a duck.

Crawley, England’s leading scorer in the series, could only turn the ball to Sarfaraz Khan at backward short leg.

Ollie Pope made a breezy 19 before attempting a sweep against Ashwin, and Yashasvi Jaiswal took a running catch to dismiss the England vice captain.

Jonny Bairstow smacked Ashwin for three sixes in an enthralling duel between two fierce competitors both playing their 100th tests.

Kuldeep Yadav, replacing Ashwin in the attack, ended Bairstow’s entertaining knock of 39, trapping him lbw.

Ashwin returned to disturb Stokes’ stumps with the final delivery before the lunch break.

Root waged a lone battle but did not get much support from the other end and was the last man dismissed after he holed out to Jasprit Bumrah at long on.

British boxing icon Ricky Hatton is stepping back into the ring, and he’s doing it in Dubai.

The former world champion has confirmed he will return to professional boxing in a middleweight bout against UAE’s own Eisa Al Dah on December 2, just weeks after turning 47. The highly anticipated fight will take place in Dubai and was officially announced during a promotional event hosted by Al Dah on Sunday.

While Hatton wasn’t physically present at the Dubai announcement, he joined via livestream, explaining that a freak injury, caused by his sunglasses, suffered at the Oasis gig, prevented him from travelling.

“I wish I were there, but I had a little injury to my eye,” Hatton told a British daily.

“It’s one of those freakish things. I caught my sunglasses in my eye. Luckily, there’s no permanent damage, just a surface scrape. Fingers crossed, we’re good to go.”

Hatton, affectionately known as “The Hitman,” was one of the sport’s most beloved figures, having claimed world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight during his career. He last fought professionally in 2012, when he was defeated by Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester, a fight that marked his official retirement after a storied run.

Hatton, affectionately known as “The Hitman,” is one of Britain’s most popular ever fighters, having claimed world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight during his career. The Manchester-born boxer is renowned for taking huge swathes of support over to Las Vegas for huge fights against the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Paulie Malignaggi and Manny Pacquiao.

His Dubai comeback against Eisa Al Dah, a respected Emirati fighter who has won eight of his 11 professional bouts, is expected to draw attention from fans across the region and beyond, especially with Dubai’s growing reputation as a global hub for elite sporting events.

“The main thing is the fight will take place, and I can’t wait. I’m looking forward to it.”

With the UAE increasingly becoming a stage for major combat sports, this bout marks another big-ticket fight that puts Dubai in the global boxing spotlight.

Star power boosts Super60 with Guptill, Parnell, Harbhajan

It was a landmark day for cricket in the USA as the teams assembled an exciting mix of international stars and emerging talents during the draft for the inaugural Super60 USA Tournament, held on Friday with prominent names like Martin Guptill, Wayne Parnell, Varun Aaron and Lendl Simmons making the headlines.

Teams had already locked in eight players as part of their pre-signings. In the draft, they were allowed to choose between seven to 10 more players.

The LA Strikers had already secured big names like Aaron Finch, Isuru Udana, and Ben Dunk in their pre-signings. During the draft, they further strengthened their lineup by picking Gurkeerat Mann, a dynamic all-rounder known for his decent strike rate and handy off-spin. The franchise also brought in experienced wicketkeeper-batter Naman Ojha and seasoned medium-pacer Parvinder Awana, clearly aiming to build a well-rounded squad with depth in every department.

Morrisville Fighters put together a strong core by signing two of India’s finest bowlers — Harbhajan Singh and Munaf Patel. They further added fire power in the batting department with the signing of Shaun Marsh. The franchise continued to build on that solid base with the additions of powerful all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme, pacer Sheldon Cottrell, and experienced campaigner Faiz Fazal.

Rebel Warriors made a statement during the draft after they signed Martin Guptill and Lendl Simmons one after the other. The two batters are known for their aggressive and will play a massive role in providing a brisk start to the team. They also have Saurabh Tiwary whom they signed during the pre-signings to add more aggression in the batting department while the experience of Mitchell Johnson with the ball will be the key for Rebel’s success.

Chicago Players who already had legends in Suresh Raina and Jacques Kallis in their line up got Wayne Parnell, Varun Aaron and Devendra Bishoo to add more fuel to their bowling unit.

Detroit Falcons went into the draft with a clear game plan — to stack their squad with quality all-rounders. With Shakib Al Hasan already in the lineup, they added Mossaddek Hossain and Ariful Haque, two reliable performers with solid domestic records.

With Parthiv Patel, Chris Lynn, and Ravi Bopara in their batting lineup, the Washington Tigers have plenty of experience and firepower up top. On the bowling side, they’ll be counting on Abhimanyu Mithun, Dan Christian, and Shahbaz Nadeem to do the job with the ball and keep the opposition in check.
