The UAE is in for a blustery and cooler midweek, as temperatures are set to drop in western and coastal areas starting Wednesday, with dust-stirring winds and rough seas expected through Friday, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Wednesday, July 2: Cooler in the west, dusty winds

  • Expect clear to partly cloudy skies, with clouds forming in eastern regions.
  • Temperatures will dip slightly in western coastal areas.
  • Humidity is expected overnight and early Thursday morning, with a chance of fog or light fog forming in coastal and inland areas.
  • Winds: Light to moderate southeasterly to northwesterly, becoming active and dusty in the west at speeds of 10–25 km/h, reaching up to 40 km/h.
  • Sea conditions: Moderate to rough in the western Arabian Gulf, with regular waves in the Sea of Oman.

Thursday, July 3: More clouds in the east, rough seas continue

  • Another clear to partly cloudy day, with cloud buildup expected in the east.
  • Humidity will rise overnight, increasing the chance of light fog on Friday morning.
  • Winds will stay active and dusty in western areas at 10–25 km/h, gusting up to 40 km/h.
  • Sea conditions: Rough seas in the west of the Arabian Gulf, while the Sea of Oman remains moderate to slight.

Friday, July 4: Cloudy skies and another temperature dip

  • The day will be partly to mostly cloudy, especially in the north and east.
  • A further drop in temperature is expected across parts of the country.
  • Humidity will linger overnight and into Saturday morning, keeping fog formation likely in coastal and inland areas.
  • Winds remain light to moderate, but will stir dust at times in the west (10–25 km/h, up to 40 km/h).
  • Sea conditions: Rough to moderate in the Arabian Gulf, and regular to moderate in the Sea of Oman.

Residents are advised to monitor NCM alerts and avoid outdoor activity in dusty areas, especially in western regions, and exercise caution at sea due to rough conditions along the Arabian Gulf coast.

Residents in eastern and southern parts of the UAE are being urged to exercise caution, as convective clouds and rainfall were reported this afternoon across several regions.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued orange and yellow alerts for unstable weather in areas including Sharjah, Fujairah, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra. The alert is in place until tonight.

Heavy rain was also recorded in Showkah (Ras Al Khaimah) and Khor Fakkan (Sharjah), with social media videos showing downpours in these areas.

Despite the rain, temperatures remain dangerously high, with highs between 40°C and 47°C across the country. The lowest temperature recorded today was 27.1°C in Jais Mountain, Ras Al Khaimah.

Authorities have also warned motorists to be extra careful due to wet roads or windy conditions in some areas, which potentially reduce visibility due to blowing dust.

Unstable weather hits UAE with rain, dusty winds, and cloudy skies

The UAE is currently experiencing unstable weather, with light rain reported in Sharjah around 12:50pm on Tuesday, following early morning showers in Khorfakkan. The East Coast is now blanketed with thick clouds, signalling the likelihood of further weather activity across the country.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the ongoing conditions are being driven by a surface low-pressure system extending from the East, combined with a weaker low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. This combination is resulting in partly cloudy to hazy skies, with an increased chance of convective cloud formation—especially over eastern and some internal areas.

These clouds carry a high probability of rainfall, and more showers are expected later today and tomorrow, the NCM said.

Temperatures are also on the rise, accompanied by a slight increase in humidity. Residents, especially those in coastal and inland regions, may feel muggy conditions develop throughout the day.

Dusty winds and reduced visibility

The NCM has also warned of dusty winds that may affect various parts of the country. Wind speeds are forecast to range between 10–25 km/h, occasionally reaching up to 40 km/h in exposed areas, which may kick up dust and reduce visibility on roads.

Motorists and outdoor goers are urged to take caution, particularly in open or desert areas where blowing dust could hinder visibility and pose health risks for those with respiratory conditions.

There is also a chance of mist formation, especially during early morning or late-night hours.

Winds will be light to moderate overall, shifting between southeasterly and northeasterly directions, with occasional strengthening during the daytime.
