Residents in eastern and southern parts of the UAE are being urged to exercise caution, as convective clouds and rainfall were reported this afternoon across several regions.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued orange and yellow alerts for unstable weather in areas including Sharjah, Fujairah, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra. The alert is in place until tonight.

Heavy rain was also recorded in Showkah (Ras Al Khaimah) and Khor Fakkan (Sharjah), with social media videos showing downpours in these areas.

Despite the rain, temperatures remain dangerously high, with highs between 40°C and 47°C across the country. The lowest temperature recorded today was 27.1°C in Jais Mountain, Ras Al Khaimah.

Authorities have also warned motorists to be extra careful due to wet roads or windy conditions in some areas, which potentially reduce visibility due to blowing dust.

Unstable weather hits UAE with rain, dusty winds, and cloudy skies

Published

The UAE is currently experiencing unstable weather, with light rain reported in Sharjah around 12:50pm on Tuesday, following early morning showers in Khorfakkan. The East Coast is now blanketed with thick clouds, signalling the likelihood of further weather activity across the country.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the ongoing conditions are being driven by a surface low-pressure system extending from the East, combined with a weaker low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. This combination is resulting in partly cloudy to hazy skies, with an increased chance of convective cloud formation—especially over eastern and some internal areas.

These clouds carry a high probability of rainfall, and more showers are expected later today and tomorrow, the NCM said.

Temperatures are also on the rise, accompanied by a slight increase in humidity. Residents, especially those in coastal and inland regions, may feel muggy conditions develop throughout the day.

Dusty winds and reduced visibility

The NCM has also warned of dusty winds that may affect various parts of the country. Wind speeds are forecast to range between 10–25 km/h, occasionally reaching up to 40 km/h in exposed areas, which may kick up dust and reduce visibility on roads.

Motorists and outdoor goers are urged to take caution, particularly in open or desert areas where blowing dust could hinder visibility and pose health risks for those with respiratory conditions.

There is also a chance of mist formation, especially during early morning or late-night hours.

Winds will be light to moderate overall, shifting between southeasterly and northeasterly directions, with occasional strengthening during the daytime.

Dubai and Al Ain witnessed light to heavy rainfall on Monday, bringing brief respite from the intense summer heat. Areas such as Khatm Al Shakla, Umm Al Zamoul, Al Faqa’a, and locations near the Dubai–Al Ain Road experienced showers, with social media users sharing photos and videos from Margam and Skydive Dubai.

Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously and adhere to variable speed limits displayed on digital road signs, especially in rain-affected zones.

The showers come amid a record-breaking heatwave, with temperatures crossing 50°C multiple times this season.

What to expect this week: Fog, wind, and cooler coastal temps

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM):

  • Wednesday: Drop in temperatures, especially along the coast. Expect low clouds, possible fog, and dusty winds reaching up to 40 km/h. The sea will be slight to moderate.
  • Thursday to Saturday: Mostly clear to partly cloudy, with humidity rising overnight. Fog and light fog are possible, particularly in coastal and inland areas.

Temperature ranges for the week:

  • Highs: 33°C to 49°C
  • Lows: 25°C to 33°C

Wind speeds will range from 10 to 25 km/h, occasionally reaching up to 40 km/h. The Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman will remain slight to moderate throughout the week.

UAE sizzles at 50.2°C in Sharjah amid rainfall as midweek showers expected

The UAE experienced a dramatic contrast in weather today, with soaring temperatures and isolated rainfall reported in different regions, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

The highest temperature of the day was recorded in Al Dhaid, Sharjah, where the mercury hit a blistering 50.2°C at 2pm. Meanwhile, the coolest spot in the country was Damtha, Al Ain, where temperatures dropped to 27.1°C at 5am.

Despite the extreme heat, rainfall was reported in some parts of the eastern region, and more light showers may be on the way this week.

The NCM forecasts that cumulus clouds will likely form over the eastern parts of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, potentially bringing brief rain showers.

This weather pattern is being driven by a weak surface low-pressure system from the east interacting with a high-pressure system from the west, alongside a weak upper-atmosphere low-pressure trough. These systems are combining to create conditions conducive to cloud formation and shifting wind patterns.

Both Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to remain generally clear to partly cloudy, with moderate winds that could pick up to 40 km/h at times, stirring dust and reducing visibility in exposed areas. Winds will shift from southeasterly to northwesterly on Tuesday and southeasterly to northeasterly on Wednesday. Sea conditions will remain mostly calm, with slight to moderate waves expected in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Earlier in the week, fog was reported in several parts of Al Dhafra region on Monday morning, including Habshan, Bada Dafas, and the Ghayathi–Madinat Zayed Road. The fog persisted for nearly two hours, from 6:50am to 9am.

Temperatures across the country are forecast to range from 35°C to 49°C during the day, while nighttime lows will hover between 23°C and 32°C. Relative humidity may rise to 85% in some coastal areas, with a minimum of 10% in drier inland regions.

Looking ahead, similar weather conditions are likely to continue through Thursday and Friday, with clear to partly cloudy skies and the possibility of cloud buildup in the eastern areas. Winds are expected to stay moderate but may become gusty and dusty at times.

The NCM urges residents to monitor official forecasts, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take precautions during dusty weather, particularly those with respiratory sensitivities.
