Starting Monday, September 1, motorists in Abu Dhabi will face new adjustments to the Darb road toll system, including revised evening peak hours and the removal of daily and monthly caps.
Under the new schedule, the evening peak period will shift to 3pm–7pm, while the morning peak remains unchanged at 7am–9am, Monday through Saturday. As before, Sundays and official holidays will remain toll-free.
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) said the move is aimed at improving traffic flow and easing congestion on busy routes.
However, one of the biggest changes for residents is the cancellation of daily and monthly toll caps. Until now, motorists paid no more than Dh16 per day, or between Dh100 and Dh200 per month, depending on the number of vehicles registered. From September, these limits will no longer apply, meaning frequent commuters could see higher travel costs.
Toll fees remain Dh4 per crossing, with exemptions continuing for people of determination, low-income families, senior citizens, and retirees.
The Darb system, first introduced in January 2021, is managed by Q Mobility, a subsidiary of ADQ, which will oversee the latest rollout in coordination with the ITC. Vehicle registration remains set at Dh100 per car, with Dh50 credited to the user’s balance.
